Job summary

BYD is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to protect and troubleshoot energy storage systems on site in Saudi Arabia. You will manage protection devices, review settings, and coordinate testing for BESS containers, PCS, and HV substations.

You will serve as the primary technical contact for clients, justify protection schemes in meetings, perform fault analysis, and ensure reliable operation with timely on-site responses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• At least 1+ years' experience in protection and control engineering.
• Strong troubleshooting and technical support skills.
• Knowledge of protection relays and substations is essential.

Responsibilities

• System oversight of protection devices for BESS containers and HV substation.
• Review protection settings, diagrams, and coordination studies (Overcurrent, Distance, Differential).
• Lead or supervise secondary injection testing, CT/VT testing, and functional trip tests.
• Perform root-cause fault analysis and provide technical reports to clients.
• Serve as the primary technical contact for clients regarding protection schemes.
• Address on-site technical issues promptly to ensure reliable operation.
• Install, commission, repair, and maintain energy storage systems on site.
• Comply with site leader's work arrangement.

Job description

The ideal candidate will be responsible for protecting and troubleshooting our product to resolve our customers' technical issues.

Responsibilities

• System Oversight: Manage and maintain protection devices, including IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices), for the BESS containers, power conversion systems (PCS), and the HV substation.
• Settings & Logic: Review and implement protection settings, logic diagrams, and coordination studies (Overcurrent, Distance, Differential, etc.)
• Testing & Commissioning: Lead or supervise secondary injection testing, CT/VT testing, and functional trip tests.
• Fault Analysis: Conduct root-cause analysis for any protection trips or system disturbances and provide technical reports to the client
• Client Interface: Act as the primary technical point of contact for the client regarding protection schemes. You must be able to justify settings and schemes during technical meetings.
• Address technical issues on site in a timely manner to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime.
• Responsible for the installation, commissioning, repair, and maintenance of energy storage systems on site
• Need to obey the work arrangement of the site leader

Qualifications

• At least 1+ years' of direct experience in protection and control engineering
• Strong technical support and troubleshooting skills
• Required knowledge & Technical skills in Protection Relays (Siemens/ABB/GE/SEL), Substation Protocols (IEC 61850, Modbus TCP/IP, DNP3), knowledge for protection requirements for the battery systems, proficiency in related softwares (ETAP etc.)
