Job summary

International Maritime Industries seeks a seasoned Mechanical Commissioning Lead to plan and execute offshore jack-up rig commissioning activities. You will coordinate drilling, marine, jacking, power and utility system testing to achieve a fully tested, certified rig ready for client acceptance offshore.

Requires 8–15+ years in mechanical commissioning on new build offshore rigs, with strong English communication skills and knowledge of ABS/DNV/SOLAS/API standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • 8–15+ years' experience in mechanical commissioning on new build offshore rigs (jack-up rig).
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English.
  • Omega 365 PIMS knowledge will benefit.
  • Drilling equipment, marine systems & jackings system knowledge will benefit.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commissioning planning and execution for offshore jack-up rig systems across drilling, marine, jacking, power and utility packages.
  • Develop detailed commissioning procedures, test packs, checklists, and execution plans for mechanical and marine systems.
  • Review offshore rig mechanical designs, P&IDs, GA, system boundaries, and vendor documentation.
  • Oversee FAT, HAT and SAT for mechanical and drilling equipment; ensure compliance with ABS/DNV/SOLAS/API.
  • Act as interface between construction, engineering, electrical, instrumentation, marine and drilling disciplines.

Description
JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE

To plan, coordinate, and lead the execution of mechanical pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for offshore jack-up rig systems including drilling, marine, jacking, power, and utility systems while ensuring compliance with project

specifications, class requirements (ABS/DNV), regulatory standards, and safety procedures, to achieve safe, efficient, and timely delivery of a fully tested, certified, and operational rig ready for client acceptance and offshore deployment.

Key Accountabilities
  • Commissioning Planning & Execution
  • Develop detailed commissioning procedures, test packs, checklists, and execution plans for all mechanical and marine systems.
  • Review offshore rig mechanical designs, P&IDs, general arrangements (GA), system boundaries, and vendor documentation.
  • Lead MC and commissioning phases from pre-commissioning through functional testing and final acceptance.
  • Organize and execute FAT, HAT, and SAT for mechanical and drilling equipment.
  • Ensure all activities comply with class certification and regulatory requirements (ABS/DNV/SOLAS/API).
  • Offshore Mechanical Systems Commissioning Lead commissioning for the following jack-up rig systems: A. Drilling Package
  • Commission and verify operation of drilling equipment including Drawworks, top drive, rotary table, drives. Derrick.
  • Execute testing and commissioning of Mud pumps, mud mixing, and mud handling systems.
  • Oversee commissioning of solids control equipment including Shale shakers, mud-gas separator, degasser, centrifuges.
  • Validate installation and functionality of BOP handling & well-control mechanical equipment.
  • Test and certify Choke & kill manifold mechanical components. B. Marine & Jacking Systems
  • Lead commissioning of Jacking units, rack-and-pinion systems, lubrication, and brake systems.
  • Supervise commissioning of Leg handling, preload, and skidding systems.
  • Commission Ballast, bilge, and seawater cooling systems.
  • Verify operation of Fire main, sprinkler pumps, and deluge mechanical systems.
  • Oversee commissioning of HVAC mechanical components. (AHUs, chillers, fans, dampers)
C. Power & Utility Systems
  • Commission Diesel engines, generators, and mechanical auxiliaries.
  • Execute commissioning of Air compressors, dryers, and pneumatic systems.
  • Validate performance of Fuel oil, lube oil, cooling water, and freshwater systems.
  • Lead testing and commissioning of Cranes, winches, and deck machinery.
  • Verify mechanical integrity of emergency and safety systems 3. Interface Management & Coordination
  • Act as the key interface between construction, engineering, electrical, instrumentation, marine, and drilling disciplines.
  • Coordinate activities with OEM vendor representatives during installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in commissioning meetings, progress reporting, and HSE briefings.
  • Support integration testing between marine, drilling, and jacking systems.
  • Safety, Regulatory & Class Compliance
  • Implement offshore safety standards (PTW, JSA, SIMOPS, LOTO).
  • Ensure all commissioning activities follow class rules (ABS, DNV) and international standards (API, IMO, SOLAS).
  • Lead punch list creation, categorisation, and closure for mechanical systems.
  • Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, and system readiness reviews. Ensure documentation aligns with project turnover requirements and offshore audit expectations.
  • Troubleshooting & Technical Support
  • Resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and rotating equipment issues during commissioning.
  • Identify design or installation deviations and propose corrective actions.
  • Support performance testing and initial rig startup offshore or at shipyard.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and commissioning technicians.
  • Handover & Completion
  • Ensure all MC and commissioning documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Prepare turnover dossiers for mechanical systems (ITRs, test reports, redlines).
  • Support final acceptance tests and assist the rig crew during start-up and first well operations.
  • Deliver a fully commissioned jack-up rig ready for offshore deployment.
Requirements

Experience
  • 8–15+ years' experience in Mechanical commissioning on new build offshore rigs. (Jack-up Rig) Languages
  • Excellent Communication Skills (oral and written) in the English.
