Job summary

A leading data centre solutions provider in Dhahran Compound, Saudi Arabia, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design HVAC and plumbing systems for data centres. The successful candidate will have 8+ years of experience in data centre infrastructure, strong communication skills, and a solid engineering background. Responsibilities include conducting site surveys, preparing technical documentation, and liaising with sub-contractors to ensure successful project delivery. This role offers the opportunity to engage with key clients and lead consultancy efforts.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in data centre infrastructure (Power/cooling).
• Qualified BEng or above with a mechanical engineering degree or similar.
• Excellent English skills, both written and verbal.

Job description

• Able to design HVAC & other Mechanical/ Plumbing systems for data centres
• Concurrent maintainability design for the Mechanical Systems
• Carry out shop drawing reviews/approvals inline with the Project Specifications and international/ Local Standards and Codes.
• To produce mechanical schematics both for sales documentation and for build drawings
• To produce specifications for critical part of Mechanical installations
• Create and issue Mechanical systems specifications to contractors
• Carry out site surveys
• To develop the mechanical systems including developing all necessary drawings, technical submissions, calculations and descriptions of operation to construction standard.
• To liaise with all sub-contractors and ensure that all drawings are issued with all required information.
• To check and approve material submittals with respect to Technical Design
• Providing Sales support for incoming enquiries and queries
• Preparation of proposal/ quotes for customers directly
• Keeping in regular contact with existing customers
• Following up quotations, queries & enquires
• Study tender documents and understand client requirements to be able to put together the technical response to tender bids, proposal and quotations
• Evaluate client enquiries, specification and drawings
• Contribute to bid/no bid decision
• Formulate technical and commercial response with assistance and guidance from other departments as required
• Prepare and participate in the review of and submit Technical and part of the Commercial responses to the highest standards of accuracy, presentation, and punctuality and in accordance with company standards and client requirements.
• Prepare and participate in the review of and in the submission of technical and commercial clarifications and revised bid documents as required through the tendering process
• Maintain a full and accurate record during and after the bid submission
• Attend client, supplier and third-party meeting on and offsite as necessary
• Work closely with Design Department to hand over contracts won by the company
• Understanding / knowledge of electrical & mechanical equipment’s, financial aspects and technical risk
• Report and communicate activities effectively and appropriately.
• Experience in developing new end users and engaging in commercial negotiations
• Follow up after tender submission involving tender correspondence and coordination with clients
• Conduct site surveys to put together the reports
• Engage directly with consultancy (Data Centre audits, best practice etc)
• Act as design lead on consultancy and data centre design projects
• Support the business across its full professional services offering (Design, Consultancy, Site Supervision, Testing & Commissioning and Auditing)
• Carry out site surveys
• Develop critical systems including developing all necessary drawings, technical submissions, calculations and descriptions of operation to construction standard.
• To liaise with all sub-contractors and ensure that all drawings are issued with all required information.
• To check and approve material submittals with respect to Technical Design
• Following on site consultancy, prepare reports, present findings and provide a road map for change (appropriately detailing level of risk and opportunity for improvement)
• Work together with associate director of the Middle East and other company departments to develop innovative solutions
• Work closely with other areas of the business and key staff to overcome complex client requirements
• Manage client key accounts successfully and exceed client expectation and response time to queries and tasks.

Experience and Qualifications

• Mechanical engineer degree or similar
• 08+ years of data centre infrastructure (Power/ cooling) experience
• Qualified (BEng or above with mechanical engineering degree or similar)
• Working knowledge of Uptime Tiers & TIA 942-B – ATD not essential but beneficial
• Experience with data centre testing and commissioning
• Excellent work ethic and proactive individual
• Capable of working under own initiative and as part of a team
• Good communicator, both in writing, on the telephone and face to face with customers
• Excellent English skills -written and verbal
• Competent in MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel
• Able to prioritize tasks and manage time, to meet tight project deadlines
• Good technical and proposals and submittals management

• Ability to carry out site surveys and develop concept to schematic designs
