Job summary

KAUST seeks a Linux Specialist to design, operate, and advance Linux-based research end-user computing platforms for faculty, researchers, and students. The role covers Ubuntu and Rocky Linux endpoints, physical workstations, and virtual desktop services, ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performance access to scientific desktops.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering, engineering, or a related field.
• Linux administration and troubleshooting experience with scientific workstations and endpoints.
• Linux certification or equivalent training preferred (Red Hat, LFCE, LPIC or similar).
• Experience with remote/workstation platforms and automation is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and improve Ubuntu and Rocky Linux end-user platforms to provide stable, secure scientific workstation services.
• Develop, standardize, and maintain Linux workstation builds and images for physical and virtual desktops.
• Manage remote platforms (NICE DCV, Kasm Workspaces) for high-performance access to research desktops.
• Automate provisioning, configuration, patching, monitoring, and compliance using scripting, IaC, and GitOps.
• Troubleshoot complex Linux endpoint, workstation, remote desktop, GPU, driver, performance, identity, storage, and network issues.
