Job summary

KAUST invites applications for a Senior HPC Systems Administrator to manage a ~600-node HPC cluster, storage systems, InfiniBand/Ethernet networks, and day-to-day operations across computational science, engineering, big data, and AI/ML workloads.

You will support researchers and end-users, install and manage HPC subsystems, Slurm, storage, containers, and automation scripts, while collaborating with faculty and vendors to optimize performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent
• Five years of experience supporting large-scale computing platforms and subsystems
• Experience administering HPC components and parallel file systems
• Experience with workload managers (Slurm, LSF, or PBS) and Linux systems

Responsibilities

• Provide user support via phone, walk-in, email, and ticketing while maintaining high service standards
• Install, configure, and manage HPC subsystems including compute nodes, storage, InfiniBand and Ethernet
• Deploy and manage cluster management software, monitoring tools and services
• Administer Slurm workload manager, manage QOS policies, accounts, and automation scripts
• Develop automation scripts in Bash and Python for system administration tasks
• Manage container environments (Singularity/Apptainer, Docker) for HPC workloads
• Benchmark HPC components and perform performance tuning across hardware and software layers
• Enforce security best practices including node hardening and patching
• Manage parallel file systems (Lustre, GPFS, Weka, Vast) and perform capacity planning
• Collaborate with researchers, application teams, and vendors to resolve issues and drive improvements
• Develop software tools and documentation to support research projects on clusters
• Drive PoC projects and evaluate new tech in HPC environments
• Coordinate with vendors for issue resolution
• Create and maintain internal documentation and SOPs
• Stay updated on HPC advancements and benchmarking initiatives
