AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Design Manager - MEP to lead the mechanical, electrical and plumbing design across complex hospitality and leisure projects. You will manage multidisciplinary teams, coordinate with consultants and contractors, and ensure designs meet budgets, schedules, and global standards.

You will drive innovation, review technical submissions, and guide junior staff while maintaining adherence to quality management processes.

Qualifications

Overview

The Design Manager - MEP is responsible for leading and managing the MEP design function across complex building, infrastructure, and industrial projects, ensuring technical excellence, compliance, and successful project delivery. The role oversees multidisciplinary design teams, coordinates with stakeholders, and ensures all MEP systems are designed to meet project requirements, budgets, schedules, and applicable standards. The Design Manager drives innovation, quality assurance, and efficient design solutions throughout the project lifecycle.

Your role

• Lead the development and delivery of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) design packages from concept through detailed design stages.
• Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary MEP engineering teams, consultants, and external stakeholders.
• Ensure all MEP designs comply with local regulations, international standards, client specifications, and sustainability requirements.
• Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and technical submissions.
• Coordinate closely with architectural, structural, civil, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Establish design schedules, resource plans, and project priorities to achieve project milestones.
• Conduct design reviews, value engineering workshops, and risk assessments to optimize project performance.
• Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to engineers, designers, and project teams.
• Monitor design quality and ensure adherence to quality management procedures and best engineering practices.
• Support tendering, procurement, and contractor evaluation activities through technical reviews and clarifications.
• Manage client relationships and serve as the primary technical point of contact for MEP design matters.
• Resolve technical issues during design, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
• Drive sustainability, energy efficiency, and innovation initiatives within MEP systems design.
• Prepare project progress reports and communicate design status, risks, and recommendations to senior management.

About you

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 10-15 years of experience in MEP design and engineering, with significant experience in design management roles.
• Proven experience delivering large-scale hospitality or leisure projects (hotels, resorts, entertainment venues).
• Strong knowledge of MEP design principles, building systems, and relevant international and local codes and standards.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating with consultants and contractors.
• Proficiency in MEP design software and BIM platforms such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and related engineering tools.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical distribution, lighting, ELV, and building services systems.
• Experience in project planning, resource management, budgeting, and schedule control.
• Familiarity with sustainable design practices, energy-efficient systems, and green building certifications.
• Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
• Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer, PMP, or equivalent certification is an advantage.
