Job summary

AtkinsRéalis seeks a Design Manager - Mechanical to lead the mechanical engineering design across projects, ensuring technical excellence and regulatory compliance. You will coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, and process teams, manage budgets and schedules, and drive value engineering and best-practice adoption.

You will mentor engineers, review deliverables, and interface with clients and regulators to mitigate risks and deliver high-quality outcomes for hospitality and leisure

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s degree is an advantage.
• Demonstrated 10–15 years in mechanical design with leadership experience.
• Proven experience on large hospitality or leisure projects (hotels/resorts).
• Strong knowledge of international codes, standards, and best practices.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams on complex projects.
• Proficiency in engineering design software and mechanical tools.
• Solid understanding of HVAC, piping, utilities, rotating equipment, and mechanical packages.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage mechanical engineering design activities from concept through detailed design and construction support.
• Develop and review mechanical deliverables, specifications, calculations, reports, and drawings.
• Ensure designs comply with codes, standards, regulations, and client requirements.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and process disciplines.
• Manage design schedules, resources, and budgets to meet milestones.
• Conduct design reviews, audits, and value engineering to optimize outcomes.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and performance management for staff.
• Interface with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulators on technical matters.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout design and execution phases.
• Support procurement by reviewing vendor documents, bids, and equipment specs.
• Implement QA/QC procedures within the design process.
• Participate in project planning, engineering strategy, and management reporting.
• Drive continuous improvement and adoption of best practices.

Overview

The Design Manager - Mechanical is responsible for leading the mechanical engineering design function across projects, ensuring technical excellence, compliance with industry standards, and delivery of innovative engineering solutions. The role oversees multidisciplinary coordination, design quality, resource planning, and stakeholder management throughout the project lifecycle. The Design Manager provides technical leadership to engineering teams while ensuring project objectives related to safety, quality, schedule, and cost are achieved.

Your role

• Lead and manage mechanical engineering design activities from concept through detailed design and construction support.

About you

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master's Degree is an advantage.
• Minimum 10-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, including leadership or management responsibilities.
• Proven experience delivering large-scale hospitality or leisure projects (hotels, resorts, entertainment venues).
• Strong knowledge of international engineering codes, standards, and industry best practices.
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and complex engineering projects.
• Proficiency in engineering design software and mechanical engineering tools.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, piping, utility systems, rotating equipment, and mechanical packages, as applicable to project requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to manage project schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
• Ability to mentor engineering teams and foster a collaborative work environment.
• Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent certification is desirable.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
