Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Design Manager - Mechanical in Saudi Arabia to lead the mechanical engineering design function from concept to construction support. You will develop and review deliverables and ensure compliance with codes, standards, and client requirements.

You will coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and process teams, manage schedules and budgets, and mentor engineers. Strong leadership and global codes knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master's Degree is an advantage.
• 10-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, including leadership or management responsibilities.
• Proven experience delivering large-scale hospitality or leisure projects (hotels, resorts, entertainment venues).
• Strong knowledge of international engineering codes, standards and best practices.
• Proficiency in engineering design software and mechanical design tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage mechanical engineering design activities from concept through detailed design and construction support.
• Develop and review mechanical deliverables, specifications, calculations, reports, and drawings.
• Ensure designs comply with codes, standards, regulations, and client requirements.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, process).
• Manage design schedules, resources, and budgets to meet milestones.
• Conduct technical reviews, design audits, and value engineering to optimize outcomes.
• Mentor engineers and designers; provide technical guidance.
• Interface with clients, consultants, contractors, and authorities on technical matters.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks across design and execution phases.
• Support procurement by reviewing vendor documents and equipment specs.
• Ensure QA/QC within the design process.
• Contribute to project planning and engineering strategy; drive continuous improvement.

The Design Manager - Mechanical is responsible for leading the mechanical engineering design function across projects, ensuring technical excellence, compliance with industry standards, and delivery of innovative engineering solutions. The role oversees multidisciplinary coordination, design quality, resource planning, and stakeholder management throughout the project lifecycle. The Design Manager provides technical leadership to engineering teams while ensuring project objectives related to safety, quality, schedule, and cost are achieved.

Your role Lead and manage mechanical engineering design activities from concept through detailed design and construction support. Develop and review mechanical engineering deliverables, specifications, calculations, reports, and drawings. Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and client requirements. Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, including civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and process disciplines. Manage design schedules, resource allocation, and engineering budgets to meet project milestones. Conduct technical reviews, design audits, and value engineering studies to optimize project outcomes. Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and performance management for mechanical engineers and designers. Interface with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities on technical matters. Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the design and execution phases. Support procurement activities by reviewing vendor documents, technical bids, and equipment specifications. Ensure implementation of quality assurance and quality control procedures within the design process. Participate in project planning, engineering strategy development, and management reporting. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and adoption of engineering best practices.

About you Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master's Degree is an advantage. Minimum 10-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, including leadership or management responsibilities. Proven experience delivering large-scale hospitality or leisure projects (hotels, resorts, entertainment venues). Strong knowledge of international engineering codes, standards, and industry best practices. Proven experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and complex engineering projects. Proficiency in engineering design software and mechanical engineering tools. Strong understanding of HVAC, piping, utility systems, rotating equipment, and mechanical packages, as applicable to project requirements. Demonstrated ability to manage project schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills. Ability to mentor engineering teams and foster a collaborative work environment. Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent certification is desirable. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
