The Senior Bridge Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the design review, construction supervision, inspection, and technical compliance of bridge and structural works associated with major Roads and Highways projects in Riyadh. The role requires extensive experience in bridge engineering, construction methodologies, quality assurance, and coordination with contractors, clients, and multidisciplinary project teams.
The successful candidate will ensure that all bridge-related works are executed in accordance with approved designs, project specifications, local and international standards, and project schedules while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
Responsibilities
Design Review & Technical Oversight
- Review and comment on bridge designs, shop drawings, and construction documents submitted by contractors.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, design criteria, AASHTO, BS, Eurocodes, and relevant Saudi standards.
- Evaluate design modifications and value engineering proposals.
- Provide technical guidance on structural and bridge engineering issues.
Construction Supervision
- Supervise construction activities related to bridges, flyovers, interchanges, underpasses, retaining walls, culverts, and associated structures.
- Monitor construction methodologies and sequencing to ensure structural integrity and safety.
- Verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Ensure timely resolution of site technical issues.
Inspection & Quality Assurance
- Conduct regular site inspections and structural assessments.
- Witness material testing, pile load tests, concrete works, post-tensioning activities, and structural installations.
- Review inspection and test plans (ITPs), method statements, and quality records.
- Ensure implementation of quality assurance and quality control procedures.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate with Resident Engineers, Highway Engineers, Contractors, Utility Teams, and Client representatives.
- Participate in technical meetings and progress review sessions.
- Interface with design teams to resolve engineering and construction challenges.
- Support project delivery by ensuring structural activities remain on schedule.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Promote and enforce project HSE requirements.
- Ensure bridge construction activities comply with safety regulations and approved procedures.
- Identify potential construction risks and recommend mitigation measures.
Progress Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor progress of bridge works against project schedules.
- Prepare weekly and monthly technical reports.
- Highlight delays, risks, and technical concerns affecting project delivery.
- Provide recommendations for remedial measures and construction improvements.
Contract Administration Support
- Review technical aspects of variations, claims, and Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Assist commercial and contract teams with technical evaluations.
- Support the review of contractor submissions and payment certifications related to bridge works.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with specialization in Structural or Bridge Engineering.
- Master's Degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent certification is an advantage.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in bridge and structural engineering.
- At least 8 years of experience on major Roads & Highways infrastructure projects.
- Previous experience in construction supervision consultancy roles.
- Proven experience with bridges, flyovers, grade-separated interchanges, viaducts, underpasses, and retaining structures.
- GCC and Saudi Arabia project experience is highly preferred.
- Experience on large-scale infrastructure projects valued above SAR 500 million is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of bridge engineering principles and structural analysis.
- Experience with reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and steel bridge structures.
- Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD, Eurocodes, BS Standards, and Saudi regulations.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software such as MIDAS Civil, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, CSI Bridge, or similar.
- Knowledge of bridge inspection, maintenance, and rehabilitation techniques.
- Understanding of FIDIC contractual procedures.
