Job description

Reporting to the Chief, Centers of Excellence, the Senior Administrative Officer oversees the commercial development, finance, strategy, administrative activities and operation of the JHAH CoE. This role is envisioned as a triadic partner with the clinical and nursing leads for the JHAH CoE, working directly with the CCoE and CNO.

The leader will be administratively responsible for all aspects of care delivery within JHAH CoE, and for the direction of the services provided to maintain high-level professional and technical work. The Service includes but is not limited to the Hematology and Medical Oncology Unit, Infusion, Radiation Oncology, and Palliative Care. For Cardiovascular, the Services includes but is not limited to General Cardiology, Cardiology Specialty Services (heart failure, electrophysiology, cardiac imaging, dysplipidemia as well as interventional cardiology), non-invasive diagnostic cardiology, cardiac rehab, Vascular Surgery, and Cardiac Surgery.

This experienced administrative leader of the Business Unit’s primary responsibilities are:

  • Bringing management, leadership and vision to develop and lead the day-to-day implementation of the business strategy for the Oncology and Cardiovascular CoE, strengthening operational efficiency, driving service improvements for patients and payors, and generating growth;
  • Organizing, supervising and coordinating all administrative activities in the Oncology and Cardiovascular CoE.
  • Facilitating close alignment and integration of the JHAH CoE Business Unit with the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center and Cardiovascular Institute at Johns Hopkins Medicine.
  • Responsible, with the Chair of the Business Unit, for the development and implementation of the commercial plan. This includes the development and management of Service Level Agreements between the CoE and other JHAH departments.
  • The successful development, implementation and advancement of quality initiatives, including quality and patient safety management initiatives, in line with JHAH policies and accreditations and with JHM expectations.
  • Receive reports and collaborate with the CoE project manager, oncology administrator and cardiovascular administrator.
Strategic Management
  • Maintain thorough and current knowledge of issues related to MOH rules, regulations and reimbursement systems.
  • Performs gap analyses and assesses needs to improve or introduce patient-centered programs for the entire spectrum of cancer and cardiovascular services, in alignment with the JHAH strategic plan and in close coordination with the Chair of the CoE Business Unit.
  • Continuously assess industry trends to identify growth opportunities in clinical sub-specialties
  • Ensures appropriate affiliation/collaboration across the department and with other departments
  • Regularly reviews marketing analyses with Planning and Marketing team to identify geographic growth/needs areas and growth needs
Operational Management
  • Supports patient-centered cancer and cardiovascular care operational excellence in all clinical domains: inpatient, ambulatory clinics and emergency department pathways for cancer patients, working in close co-ordination with the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins Medicine and the Cardiovascular Institute at Johns Hopkins.
  • Develops strategies using data-driven analytics to project growth, project healthcare financial impacts, and provide vision for future services.
  • Assures that the service line has access to decision support staff and tools to achieve evidence based, value driven care, with optimal patient outcomes.
  • With the Chair of the CoE Business Unit and the Director of Oncology Nursing routinely providing updates on programmatic development, volumes, quality metrics, finances, marketing, education, research, and integration with the SKCCC.
  • With the Chair of the CoE Business Unit and the Director of Cardiovascular Nursing routinely providing updates on programmatic development, volumes, quality metrics, finances, marketing, education, research, and integration with the Johns Hopkins Cardiovascular Institute.
  • Works with appropriate JHAH and JHM resources to manage all facilities renovations, new construction and physical plant-related projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, finance accounting, a related field, or a health care field such as nursing, is required. MBA, MHA, MPH, or other related field strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience as an administrator within a complex health system, preferably in oncology and/or cardiovascular care, navigating multiple entities and priorities;
  • Strong financial acumen including experience of managing a P&L
  • Strong operational management experience, preferably with oncology and/or cardiovascular services
  • Track record of effective leadership, with ability to inspire, influence and motivate teams;
  • Experience of change management and delivering service transformation;
