Job summary

KAUST invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral position in the Volcanology, Igneous Petrology and Geochemistry group to explore Red Sea hydrothermal vent fields, integrating bathymetric and geophysical data with AI-supported models.

The successful candidate will map vent systems, process hydroacoustic data, and contribute to seagoing expeditions, publications, and informational maps.

Qualifications

PhD in Earth Sciences, Geosciences, Marine Geology or related field
Strong English publication and conference record
Ability to work independently and deliver
Experience with hydroacoustic data processing and interpretation
Experience participating in seagoing expeditions

Responsibilities

Map hydrothermal vent fields in the Red Sea Rift using bathymetric and geophysical data
Process and interpret hydroacoustic data; develop AI-supported predictive models
Contribute to planning and participation in seagoing expeditions
Publish findings and translate results into informational maps and governance outputs
