Job summary

KAUST invites talented postdoctoral researchers to join the Materials Science and Engineering Division to advance MXene-based device development. The project bridges materials innovation with practical device engineering, focusing on new MXene chemistries, liquid-crystal alignment strategies, and translational device prototypes.

You will lead independent research, establish reproducible synthesis and fabrication workflows, perform advanced characterization, publish findings, and mentor students.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong background in MXene research and/or 2D materials, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.
  • Hands-on experience in MXene synthesis & processing, colloids/liquid crystals and alignment/oriented assembly, MXene device fabrication and testing, or scalable environmental-related applications.
  • Proficiency with materials characterization and performance evaluation (e.g., SEM/TEM, XRD, XPS, Raman/FTIR, electrical conductivity measurements, electrochemical testing as applicable).
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead independent research on MXene-based device development, connecting materials design, scalable processing, and device-level engineering.
  • Establish reproducible workflows for MXene synthesis/processing, assembly, device fabrication, and performance benchmarking.
  • Perform rigorous materials–structure–property–device correlation using electrochemical/physical testing and advanced characterization.
  • Maintain high standards in lab safety, documentation, data management, and timely reporting.
  • Publish high-impact papers, present at conferences, contribute to proposals where appropriate, and mentor students.
