Job summary

KAUST in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, is seeking postdoctoral researchers in the Physical Science and Engineering Division for MXene‑based device development. You will bridge materials innovation with practical device engineering, leading synthesis, processing, and device testing while mentoring students.

Ideal candidates hold a PhD in a related field, have strong MXene/2D materials experience, and will contribute to high‑impact publications and proposals.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Strong background in MXene research and/or 2D materials with peer‑reviewed publications.
  • Hands‑on experience in MXene synthesis & processing, device fabrication or related areas.
  • Proficiency with materials characterization and performance evaluation (SEM/TEM, XRD, XPS, Raman/FTIR).
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead independent research on MXene‑based device development, linking materials design to devices.
  • Establish reproducible workflows for MXene synthesis, processing, assembly and benchmarking.
  • Correlate materials, structure, property and device performance via advanced tests.
  • Maintain lab safety, documentation, data management, and timely reporting.
  • Publish high‑impact papers, present at conferences, and mentor students.

Description

We are seeking talented postdoctoral researchers with expertise in MXene-based device development, bridging materials innovation with practical device engineering. The project focuses on next-generation MXene devices related to the following research directions: design and synthesis of new MXene chemistries, advanced liquid-crystal-enabled alignment/orientation strategies for MXenes, and construction of application-targeted MXene devices with translational potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead independent research on MXene-based device development, connecting materials design, scalable processing, and device-level engineering.
  • Establish reproducible workflows for MXene synthesis/processing, assembly, device fabrication, and performance benchmarking.
  • Perform rigorous materials–structure–property–device correlation using electrochemical/physical testing and advanced characterization.
  • Maintain high standards in lab safety, documentation, data management, and timely reporting.
  • Publish high-impact papers, present at conferences, contribute to proposals where appropriate, and mentor students.

Qualifications

  • Hands‑on experience in at least one of the following: (i) MXene synthesis & processing, (ii) colloids/liquid crystals and alignment/oriented assembly, (iii) MXene device fabrication and testing, or (iv) scalable environmental‑related applications (e.g., seawater-related).
  • Proficiency with materials characterization and performance evaluation (e.g., SEM/TEM, XRD, XPS, Raman/FTIR, electrical conductivity measurements, electrochemical testing as applicable).
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills.
