Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Riyadh seeks an experienced Field Engineer – Materials to oversee material-related activities on a major site supervision project. You will ensure construction materials meet approved specs, participate in approvals, inspections, testing, and QA throughout the project lifecycle.

You will coordinate with Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, laboratories, and contractors; review submittals and test reports; supervise sampling, testing, and storage; prepare inspection records

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years in construction materials engineering, quality control, or site supervision.
  • 5+ years in materials inspection, testing, or supervision on major projects.
  • Experience with site supervision consultancy, PMC, or engineering consultancy preferred.
  • Knowledge of ASTM, BS, ACI, AASHTO, ISO, and Saudi standards.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and inspect construction materials to ensure compliance with approved project specifications and quality requirements.
  • Review material submittals, technical data sheets, certificates of compliance, and manufacturers' documentation.
  • Verify that materials delivered to site conform to approved material submissions and contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate and witness material sampling, testing, and laboratory inspections.
  • Monitor material quality control processes throughout procurement, delivery, storage, installation, and final acceptance.
  • Review and assess contractor material approval requests and provide technical recommendations.
  • Ensure all testing activities are conducted in accordance with approved standards and testing procedures.
  • Coordinate with independent laboratories and testing agencies to verify compliance of construction materials.
  • Inspect storage facilities and material handling procedures to ensure materials are protected and maintained properly.
  • Prepare material inspection reports, quality observations, and compliance assessments.
  • Review and monitor testing of concrete, steel reinforcement, structural steel, aggregates, asphalt, waterproofing systems, finishing materials, and other construction materials.
  • Ensure compliance with approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Control procedures.
  • Monitor material traceability and maintain records of approvals, test reports, and certifications.
  • Identify non-conforming materials and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control teams in the closure of NCRs and material-related observations.
  • Participate in factory inspections and supplier audits when required.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, architectural, and MEP supervision teams regarding material compliance issues.
  • Verify compliance with local authority requirements, project specifications, and international standards.
  • Support progress reporting and project documentation related to material inspections and testing activities.
  • Assist during testing, commissioning, snagging, and project handover phases to ensure material compliance documentation is complete.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Field Engineer – Materials to oversee and monitor all material-related activities for a major site supervision consultancy project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all construction materials incorporated into the works comply with approved specifications, quality standards, contract requirements, and applicable codes. Working closely with the Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, Quality Team, contractors, suppliers, and laboratories, the Field Engineer – Materials will play a key role in material approvals, inspections, testing, quality assurance, and compliance monitoring throughout the project lifecycle.

Your role

About You
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8+ years of overall professional experience in construction materials engineering, quality control, or site supervision.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in materials inspection, testing, or supervision on major construction projects.
  • Proven experience on large-scale buildings, convention centers, hospitality developments, hotels, resorts, mixed-use developments, or commercial projects.
  • Experience within Site Supervision Consultancy, PMC, or Engineering Consultancy environments is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, testing methodologies, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Experience reviewing material submittals, shop drawings, technical specifications, and laboratory reports.
  • Familiarity with international standards such as ASTM, BS, ACI, AASHTO, ISO, and relevant Saudi standards.
  • Knowledge of concrete technology, structural steel, reinforcement, aggregates, waterproofing systems, masonry materials, finishes, and building materials.
  • Experience coordinating with accredited testing laboratories and third-party inspection agencies.
  • Strong understanding of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), QA/QC procedures, and material approval workflows.
  • Ability to identify material deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Previous experience in Saudi Arabia or GCC projects is highly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction management systems.
  • Membership in a recognized professional engineering organization is an advantage.
  • Fluency in English is required; Arabic language skills are advantageous.
