Role: Landscape Architect - Public Realm Design Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Industry: Architecture and Planning Function: Architect Experience: Minimum 6 years Job Type: Full Time Work Arrangement: On-site Position Overview AECOM is seeking a Landscape Architect - Public Realm Design in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for an Architecture and Planning role focused on landscape architecture, public realm design, technical delivery, and project coordination. The position will independently manage smaller landscape projects, lead design teams and client discussions, develop technical landscape packages, and translate public realm and sustainability standards into practical design solutions.
Role Overview
The Landscape Architect will take increasing ownership of landscape projects from design development through technical delivery. The role combines creative design, public realm planning, technical documentation, client engagement, multidisciplinary coordination, quality control, project financial awareness, and mentoring responsibilities.
Project and Design Leadership
- Independently manage smaller and less complex landscape design projects with senior team oversight.
- Structure project teams with clear roles and responsibilities.
- Prepare resource deployment based on approved project fees for senior review.
- Lead client meetings and take ownership of the structure and content of project deliverables.
- Translate design frameworks established by senior staff into clear landscape and public realm principles and objectives.
- Deliver landscape designs independently with direction from senior team members.
- Lead designers in preparing workshop and client presentation materials with a clear design narrative.
- Participate actively in internal and external workshops and prepare concise outcome reports.
- Coordinate concurrent landscape assignments while maintaining design and delivery requirements.
Public Realm and Landscape Design
- Interpret and graphically communicate public realm standards applicable to project and design requirements.
- Identify relevant public realm, sustainability, and regulatory guidance for individual project regions.
- Apply established public realm design principles to landscape planning and design.
- Prepare clear written landscape design principles, guidelines, and supporting technical content.
- Apply spatial planning and site analysis methodologies throughout design development.
- Develop innovative landscape solutions using digital design and visualization tools.
- Support sustainable landscape design and environmental stewardship objectives.
Technical Landscape Delivery
The role requires the ability to independently produce complete technical landscape packages for senior review. This includes coordination with other disciplines and incorporation of applicable authority requirements into project documentation. A strong understanding of regional planting and irrigation requirements, horticultural standards, and landscape construction considerations is required. The Landscape Architect will also gain and apply site experience on built landscape projects, working with senior team members to resolve field-related design issues.
Digital Design and Visualization
- Use 3D visualization and BIM platforms such as SketchUp, Revit, or similar tools.
- Apply GIS and digital mapping tools to environmental analysis and site assessment.
- Use Adobe Creative Suite for presentation graphics, visualization, and technical documentation.
- Develop landscape diagrams and visual presentation materials.
- Produce and improve Photoshop and Lumion renders where required.
- Help strengthen landscape design graphic standards across project deliverables.
Quality Assurance
- Apply established quality procedures across landscape design deliverables.
- Perform thorough self-checks before documents are issued for wider review.
- Review documentation against applicable PDS deliverable requirements.
- Conduct QA and QC checks on technical landscape packages.
- Maintain consistent technical and graphic quality across project outputs.
Project Coordination and Commercial Support
- Coordinate technical inputs from multiple disciplines.
- Develop an understanding of project financial status and reporting with Project Managers and project leads.
- Provide updates for studio and resource planning meetings.
- Support the review of landscape cost plans.
- Understand bid requirements and contribute to technical approaches and methodologies.
- Support bid delivery structures and coordinate required technical inputs.
- Contribute to commercial aspects of bid preparation as required.
- Maintain internal design libraries and update project sheets for active assignments.
Team Development
The Landscape Architect will support the integration and development of new landscape team members. Responsibilities include guiding new recruits toward relevant reference materials and completed projects while providing mentorship and coaching to graduates and junior landscape architects.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 6 years of professional experience in landscape architecture.
- Demonstrated expertise in landscape design and project delivery.
- Experience leading project activities and coordinating design teams.
- Advanced proficiency with 3D visualization and BIM tools such as SketchUp, Revit, or similar platforms.
- Strong knowledge of landscape design principles, spatial planning, and site analysis.
- Knowledge of public realm design standards and regional regulatory guidelines.
- Experience with GIS software and digital mapping tools for environmental analysis and site assessment.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite for presentation graphics, visualization, and technical documentation.
- Comprehensive understanding of sustainable landscape design and environmental stewardship.
- Knowledge of planting design, irrigation systems, and applicable horticultural standards.
- Experience leading client meetings and managing stakeholder communications.
- Ability to develop and deliver clear design presentations.
- Experience with project financial management, cost planning, and budget tracking.
- Strong technical writing capability for design principles, guidelines, and project specifications.
- Knowledge of QA and QC procedures and technical documentation standards.
- Experience with construction administration, site supervision, and resolution of field-related design issues.
- Ability to mentor and coach junior landscape professionals.
- Knowledge of bid preparation, technical methodologies, and commercial project delivery structures.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
