Job summary

Larsen & Toubro is seeking a Design Lead (Instrumentation) to review and execute engineering activities for Solar PV plant instrumentation/automation. You will guide modelers for BIM 3D PV layouts, coordinate with civil, electrical, MEP and other teams, and support engineering across the full project lifecycle from pre-bid to warranty.

The role requires leadership of a design team, strong planning of man-hours, and ensuring timely delivery within budget while maintaining high quality.

Qualifications

• Requires strong knowledge of instrumentation/control systems for Solar PV projects.
• Experience in design reviews, sizing calculations, and client approvals.
• Ability to coordinate with Civil/Structural, Electrical, MEP and other teams.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engineering drawings and documents on time per project schedule.
• Review designs and calculations by engineers and drafters; secure client approvals.
• Coordinate inter-disciplinary checks across departments.
• Provide support from pre-bid engineering through commissioning and warranty.

Job description

As Design Lead (Instrumentation), the person shall be capable of reviewing & executing Engineering Activities of instrumentation /Automation of Solar PV Power Plants. He shall facilitate the modellers in development of BIM 3D Model for PV Solar Power plants. In addition, she / he has to coordinate with other departments including Inter-departmental checks covering Civil/ Structural, Electrical, MEP and others. The Design Lead (Instrumentation) shall be required to provide support for the engineering activities covering the full cycle of works from pre-bid engineering to support during commissioning and warranty periods and to extend support to site team. She / He shall lead a team of Design Engineers and Draughts Persons to manage the Engineering activities within budget, deliver on time and maintaining a high quality of engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Timely Delivery of Engineering Drawings & Documents
• Ensure deliveries are aligned to Project Schedule
• Review drawings by Design Engineers & Draughts Persons. Checking of design & sizing calculations of engineering electrical equipment and obtaining approvals from the client
• Review of Vendor deliverables pertaining to Engineering
• Capable of Multitasking and deliver multiple things on time
• Estimate and Plan man-hour requirements
• Review BOQ and submit to contracts team and providing technical clarifications
• Coordinate with multiple disciplines for ensuring inter-departmental checks
• Provide support & clarifications to the Site Execution team
• Check pre-award evaluation of vendors (w.r.t. technical specifications requirement of the client) and forward the validation document to Supply Chain Management
• Inspect equipment from the finalized vendor after submission of validation document of the vendor
• Clarify issues w.r.t. the design & requirements of the client to the Site Execution Team
• Collect inputs for project details from client & Project Engineering Manager
• Coordinating with Operations team and informing Design specifications for obtaining approval
• Collect inputs for project details (General Arrangement Drawings) from Vendors

Software Skills Required

• General awareness of SCADA Programming software(Preferable) and MS Office.

Technical Expertise

• The Design Lead (Instrumentation) is required to have an overall knowledge of equipment
• layouts and necessary calculations. Expertise in PLC/SCADA system, Met station system,
• cable selections, Telecom, CCTV systems, ACS (Access Control system), System Integration,
• third party equipment integration system. Well versed in all the protocols of communication
• systems, Tracker control system. He / She is also required to have knowledge in Electrical and
• Mechanical Equipment.

Qualification & Experience

• BE Electronics Instrumentation Engineering / ICE (Instrumentation and Control Engineering) or M. Tech. (Instrumentation or Automation)
• 10–15 years (Must have experience in design aspects of Solar PV Power Plants / Power Distribution Projects)
