Job Summary
The Instrument Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of field instruments and control systems to ensure accurate, reliable, and safe plant operations. The role supports continuous operations by maintaining instrumentation systems in compliance with approved engineering procedures, maintenance standards, and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) requirements.
Responsibilities
- Instrument Maintenance & Calibration
Perform preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on field instruments including pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters. Maintain and service control valves, actuators, positioners, and associated accessories. Carry out calibration and testing of instruments using standard calibration equipment and procedures.
- Troubleshooting & Fault Rectification
Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in instrumentation and control systems. Identify root causes of failures and implement effective corrective actions. Support operations teams during instrumentation-related breakdowns and emergencies.
- Installation & Commissioning Support
Assist in installation, loop checking, testing, and commissioning of instruments and control systems. Ensure installations comply with approved drawings, specifications, and safety standards. Support plant startups, shutdowns, and turnaround activities.
- Drawings & Documentation
Read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, instrument datasheets, and engineering drawings. Maintain accurate calibration records, maintenance logs, and inspection reports. Update documentation as required after maintenance or modification activities.
- Safety & Compliance
Follow all site HSE procedures, including Permit-to-Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and safe work practices. Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents immediately.
- Coordination & Teamwork
Coordinate with engineers, supervisors, and other maintenance disciplines to ensure reliable operation of instrumentation systems. Assist junior technicians and contractors when required. Maintain good housekeeping in work areas and instrument locations.

Qualifications
- Diploma or Technical Certification in Instrumentation, Control, or Electrical Engineering.
