Duruper is seeking an experienced HV/EHV Underground Cable Specialist to assess condition, performance and reliability of high‑voltage underground cable circuits and accessories.
You will review configurations, analyse diagnostic results, investigate defects and propose monitoring, repair, replacement or uprating strategies, with an emphasis on safety and reliability.
Job Summary
The HV/EHV Underground Cable Specialist will assess the condition, performance and reliability of high-voltage and extra-high-voltage AC/DC underground cable circuits and accessories. The role involves reviewing cable system configurations, analysing diagnostic and testing results, investigating defects and failures and recommending appropriate monitoring, repair, replacement or uprating strategies.
Roles & Responsibilities
Assess HV/EHV AC and DC cable circuits including XLPE and oil-filled cable systems.
Verify cable routes, circuit lengths, conductor and insulation types, sheaths, bonding/earthing systems, joints, terminations, link boxes and cross-bonding arrangements.
Inspect sheath voltage limiters and fire/mechanical protection systems.
Review installation and commissioning records, cable loading and thermal constraints.
Analyse diagnostic results, including sheath tests, Partial Discharge (PD), tan-delta, VLF/withstand and other technology-appropriate tests.
Evaluate cable defects, failure history, accessory condition and repairability.
Recommend condition monitoring, repairs, replacement or uprating based on technical findings.
Prepare technical assessment reports, test interpretations and recommendations.
Mandatory Requirements
12+ years of relevant experience in HV/EHV underground cable engineering, inspection, testing or condition assessment.
Strong experience with HV/EHV XLPE and oil-filled cable systems including AC/DC applications.
Practical knowledge of cable joints, terminations, bonding systems and sheath protection arrangements.
Experience interpreting cable diagnostic and testing results, including PD, tan-delta and sheath testing.
Knowledge of cable route data, thermal ratings, failure investigation and technical reporting.
Relevant engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification.
