Job summary

Virtucruit, in partnership with a leading mining company in Saudi Arabia, seeks a Health and Safety Officer (Underground and Surface) in the Health, Safety & Environment Department. Implement and monitor HSE practices across drilling operations and facilities. Reports to Health and Safety Supervisor; NEBOSH IGC required; 3–5 years HSE mining experience; valid driving licence and travel to remote sites supported.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
• NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
• Valid driving licence with ability to travel to remote operational sites.
• Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in Health, Safety and Environment within mining, mineral exploration, drilling.

Responsibilities

HSE Operations: Assisting with the implementation and monitoring of health, safety, and environmental procedures across mining and drilling operations, ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Implement, monitor and continuously improve the Company's Health, Safety and Environmental Management System.
2. Ensure compliance with Saudi Arabian legislation, client HSE requirements, company standards, and applicable international standards.
3. Conduct routine inspections of drilling rigs, workshop, warehouse, camp, vehicles, and other operational facilities.
4. Carry out workplace hazard identification, risk assessments, and verification of critical risk controls.
5. Participate in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Take-5 Risk Assessments, and Pre-Task Risk Assessments.
6. Monitor compliance with Permit to Work (PTW) systems and Safe Work Procedures.
7. Verify that personnel use the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintain compliance with PPE standards.
8. Monitor high-risk activities including lifting operations, working at height, hot work, electrical work, excavation, pressure testing, and rig mobilization / demobilization.
9. Monitor safe operating practices during Diamond and RC drilling activities including rod handling, core handling, sample collection, compressor operations, mud mixing, winch operations, rotating equipment, hydraulic systems, and fuel handling.
10. Conduct routine inspections of machine guarding, emergency stops, fire protection equipment, first aid equipment, and safety signage.
11. Investigating incidents using recognized root cause analysis techniques.
12. Prepare investigation reports and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and closed within agreed timeframes.
13. Deliver HSE inductions, toolbox talks, safety alerts, awareness campaigns, and other training programmes.
14. Coach supervisors and drilling crews on safe work practices and behavioral safety.
15. Maintain HSE records including inspections, incidents, audits, training, environmental monitoring, and statutory documentation.
16. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly HSE reports as required.
17. Conduct internal HSE audits and participate in client and regulatory inspections.
18. Ensure proper management of hazardous substances, waste segregation, spill prevention, pollution control, and environmental protection measures.
19. Conduct emergency preparedness inspections and coordinate emergency response drills.
20. Monitor camp hygiene, housekeeping, welfare facilities, and occupational health requirements.
21. Promote employee participation in hazard reporting, safety observations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
22. Support management in achieving company HSE objectives and client performance expectations.
23. Perform any other HSE-related duties assigned by management.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

1. Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
2. NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
3. Valid driving licence with the ability to travel to remote operational sites.
4. Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in Health, Safety and Environment within the mining, mineral exploration, drilling.
