We are seeking an experienced Offshore Fiber Optics Technician to support subsea and topside fiber optic cable laying, termination, testing, and troubleshooting for offshore oil and gas projects in Saudi Arabia. This is an on-call position; candidates may reside anywhere but must be available to mobilize on short notice for offshore assignments of around 30 days at a time.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in offshore fiber optic cable laying operations (subsea and topside), including route verification, cable deployment, and deck handling.
- Perform fiber termination, splicing, OTDR testing, power/loss measurements, and continuity checks for new and existing links.
- Support installation, commissioning, and maintenance of fiber optic systems for platforms, subsea equipment, and shore landing points.
- Diagnose and repair faults in fiber optic networks, including damage localization and repair procedures during offshore campaigns.
- Work closely with marine, ROV, cable lay, and oil and gas project teams to ensure safe, efficient, and quality execution of cable operations.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation: test reports, as-built records, splice diagrams, and cable route documentation.
- Ensure all work complies with client specifications, industry standards, and offshore safety and quality procedures.
- Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and permit-to-work processes; report any incidents, near misses, or non-conformances.
Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of hands‑on fiber optics experience, including cable laying, splicing, and testing.
- Proven offshore oil and gas experience (platforms, jack‑ups, barges, or construction/installation vessels).
- OTDR, light source and power meter, and fusion splicing equipment.
- Basic network concepts (single‑mode, wavelengths, connectors, patching).
- Valid offshore certifications (e.g., HUET/BOSIET/FOET or equivalent) or ability to obtain them prior to mobilization.
- Strong HSE awareness and experience working under strict offshore safety regimes.
- Ability to work in rotation‑style offshore assignments (e.g., short trips, multi‑week campaigns) on an on‑call basis.
- Willingness to travel and mobilize at short notice from home location to Saudi Arabia or other designated ports/airports.
- Good English communication skills (written and verbal); ability to complete technical records and reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with fiber optics in subsea umbilicals, offshore wind, or inter‑platform communication systems.
- Familiarity with subsea survey, ROV operations, or cable burial/protection methods.
- Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g., IEC/ISO/ITU for fiber optics) and major oil and gas operator requirements.
- Type: On‑call / project‑based (offshore trips as required).
- Location: Projects in Saudi Arabia (offshore); candidates can live in any country.
- Compensation: Day‑rate / trip‑based package, commensurate with experience and certifications.
