Data Architect Manager

Job Purpose

The Data Architect within the Data Management Office (DMO) is responsible for identifying, designing, documenting, and maintaining ALJUF’s data architecture and models. The primary goal of this role is to maintain an active blueprint of the organization’s data models (Conceptual, Logical, and Physical), key processes involved in ongoing business operations, and system components such as applications, data storages, and data processing platforms. These models must be consistently updated and aligned with business needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  1. Data Architecture and Modelling Policy: Support Data Governance in developing and updating the data architecture and modelling plan and policy, contributing to continuous improvement.
  2. Data Models: Design, document, and maintain data models at the conceptual, logical, and physical levels.
  3. Key System Components: Document essential applications, data storages, processing platforms, and analytics solutions.
  4. Data Flows and Lineage: Visualize and document data movement across processes and systems.
  5. Big Data Architecture: Define requirements for data warehouse/data lake environments using vendor-neutral reference architecture.
  6. Data Processing: Develop partitioning strategies for various data loads to optimize performance across real-time and batch operations.
  7. Architecture Change Management: Follow change management processes for new and modified data architecture initiatives.
  8. Data Architecture Checkpoints: Assess SDLC projects for reuse opportunities, model validation, and impact on overall data architecture.

Key Activities

  1. Develop and maintain current-state data architecture using modelling tools for design, modelling, and lineage.
  2. Identify gaps and develop target-state architecture, tracking issues in the Data Governance repository.
  3. Collaborate with Data Governance, Data Engineers, and IT teams to integrate new technologies per defined standards.
  4. Conduct technology assessments and recommend tools for storage, processing, and analytics.
  5. Conceptual Data Model: Define key business entities and relationships by subject area.
  6. Logical Data Model: Extend conceptual models with attributes and additional entities.
  7. Physical Data Model: Translate logical models into physical representations, including table structures, data types, and keys.
Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Proven experience in data architecture, database design, or a similar role
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, SQL, and database technologies

Work Experience & Skills

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in data modeling tools (e.g., ER/Studio, Power Designer), database languages (SQL, NoSQL), and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)
