Job summary

Bechtel in Riyadh invites a qualified Construction Engineer to support the Expo 2030 Riyadh infrastructure program. You will assist in planning methods, coordinating with senior engineers, and ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence on site.

The role requires a bachelor's degree and at least five years of civil infrastructure experience, with working knowledge of contracts, subcontracts, and English; GCC/KSA experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists construction supervision in planning construction methods and procedures.
  • Coordinates engineering or construction problems with Senior Construction Engineer and/or Construction Manager
  • Identifies construction quality, safety and schedule issues and informs the Construction Manager
  • Monitors site activities to ensure safety and compliance with drawings and specs
  • Interprets design drawings and ensures contractor's compliance with issued drawings
  • Reviews design drawings and related vendor drawings and instructions
  • Reviews quantities and material takeoffs and reports discrepancies
  • Coordinates vendor material deliveries and facilitates scheduling
  • Tracks manpower, material, and equipment projections
  • Reviews field change notices and extra work orders
  • Attends daily/weekly coordination meetings with the contractor
  • Compiles daily reports for senior staff
  • Reviews method statements and safety submittals for Safe Systems of Work
  • Interfaces with stakeholders and maintains on-site health and safety programs
  • Maintains zero-accident policy on site with regular audits
  • Monitors installation to confirm conformance with drawings and specs
  • Be available for 24/7 support as required

Project Overview:

Expo 2030 Riyadh is a global platform where countries, organizations, and individuals will come together to collaborate. Under the theme “Foresight for Tomorrow,” the Expo promotes sustainable development, innovation, and transformative thinking. The event will be held from October 2030 to March 2031 and is expected to welcome over 40 million visits.

The 6 km² Masterplan outlines a comprehensive framework for participation and infrastructure at the Expo. The exhibition space, totaling 491,100 m² GFA, can accommodate up to 197 participating countries and 29 international organizations. Working collaboratively with our customer, Expo 2030 Riyadh Company (ERC), Bechtel will manage the infrastructure program which comprises early works, utilities, and publicly accessible spaces like streets and parks. Our scope on the six-square-kilometer site will transition into a mixed-use legacy development to serve the community after the six-month event is over. The project’s master plan leverages international sustainability standards for urban afforestation, treated water, and energy sources.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will provide construction support with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and coordination of system turnover.

Your work will contribute to ensuring construction activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.

This vacancy is being advertised on a provisional basis to assess candidate interest and suitability. Any subsequent appointment will be subject to project approval, business requirements, and the formal selection process.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Assists construction supervision in planning construction methods and procedures.

  • Coordinates engineering or construction problems with Senior Construction Engineer and/or Construction Manager

  • Identifies construction quality, safety and schedule issues and makes the responsible Construction Manager aware of said issues

  • Monitors site activities to ensure works are performed in a safe and compliant manner

  • Interprets design engineering drawings and ensure contractor’s compliance to construction issued drawings, including Temporary construction facilities and Field sketches of revisions and additions and preparing "as built" drawings

  • Reviews design drawings, study Interference problems and reviewing related vendor drawings and installation instructions

  • Review estimating quantities and material takeoffs of the field purchases of materials submitted by the contractor and report discrepancies to his supervisor

  • Assists in coordination of vendor material deliveries, storage of materials, expediting and engineering reports related to the schedule

  • Follow and ensure projections and schedules for manpower, material, and equipment requirements

  • Review and stay on top of field change notices, extra work orders and back charge notices

  • Attend daily/ weekly coordination and progress meetings with the Contractor

  • Collaborates and compiles daily reports for submission to the Senior Construction Engineer and Construction Manager

  • Review of Method Statements and safety submittals for Safe Systems of Work procedures

  • Assists Senior Construction Engineer/Construction Manager with interface and stakeholder management

  • Maintain a zero-accident policy on site with the contractor through regular participation in and audit of clients' health and safety programs

  • Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings and specification

  • Works will be undertaken on a 24hrs per day and 7 days per week basis, nightshift and weekend working to support Project delivery will be required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Required bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Self-motivated individual with ability to work independently and exercise professional judgment, with a passion to take ownership of all tasks that are allocated.

  • Have a basic understanding of contract administration, including preparation of correspondence, analysis of claims, and construction negotiation.

  • Knowledge of the use of subcontracts; knowledge of the contractor/subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.

  • Experience of delivering civil infrastructure projects and specifically activities including earthworks, installation of underground utilities, structures associated with underground utilities, road construction.

  • Experience of working in the GCC and ideally in KSA.

  • Ability to manage priorities and take on additional evolving responsibilities.

  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse organization.

  • Ability to work to deadlines and accelerated project schedules.

  • Ability to communicate (both spoken and written) in English.
