Job summary

Confidential Careers in Riyadh is seeking a senior mechanical designer to produce detailed designs and drawings for complex mechanical and electronic systems, ensuring manufacturability and configuration control. You will develop 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks, prepare ICDs, BOMs, and manufacturing drawings, and ensure alignment with system requirements.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Design drawings for mechanical and electronic systems ensuring manufacturability.
• Create accurate 3D models/assemblies in SolidWorks; develop ICDs and wiring layouts.
• Prepare BOMs, assembly drawings, and manufacturing drawings; apply GD&T per standards.

Job description

To produce detailed designs and drawings for complex mechanical and electronic systems, ensuring manufacturability and adherence to configuration control.

Key Responsibilities:

Design drawings for mechanical and electronic systems

• Recreate and develop accurate 3D models and assemblies using Solidworks. Have a good understanding of Tolerance analysis, Motion kinematics & mechanical joints.
• Prepare interface control drawings (ICDs) and ensure alignment with system engineering requirements. Provide input into the design of internal wiring looms and electronic unit layouts.
• Having good understanding of 3D scanning and high-resolution mesh data capture for accurate reverse engineering and dimensional analysis.
• Process scan data and perform Scan-to-CAD using Geomagic Design X.
• Prepare assembly drawings, BOMs, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Apply geometric dimensioning & tolerance [JB1] in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and ISO 2768.
• Understand mechanical fits, clearances, interfaces, and assembly requirements.
• Develop welded structures/ Sheet metal assemblies and fabrication drawings, including welding symbols ISO 2553 in accordance with ISO 13920 requirements.
• Understand different CNC machining and manufacturing methods, including milling, turning, drilling, precision grinding, etc.
• Support prototype manufacturing, physical fitment, trial assembly, and dimensional validation.
• Work with manufacturing, fabrication, inspection, and engineering teams to resolve technical issues.

Ensuring manufacturability

• Collaborate closely with mechanical and electronic engineering teams to ensure manufacturability and supplier compatibility.
• Engage with manufacturers to understand their capabilities and ensure designs align with their machinery and processes.
• Apply deep knowledge of materials and surface treatment processes to ensure product durability and compliance with specifications.

Adherence to configuration

• Develop and maintain parts breakdown structures (PBS) and ensure configuration control.
• Process engineering change proposals (ECPs) and update designs accordingly.
• Utilize the ERP or related system to manage configuration control and maintain an accurate database of parts and documentation.

REQUIRED CAPABILITIES:

• Extensive detailing experience, preferably in the military or defence sector.
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks.
• Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and supplier capabilities.
• Knowledge of various metal types and surface treatment procedures.
• Familiarity with configuration control and engineering change proposal processes.
• Experience in developing and interpreting parts breakdown structures and interface control drawings.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with manufacturers and suppliers.
• Appreciation and understanding of electronic systems and wiring looms.
• Experience with the ERP or related system for configuration control is highly advantageous.
• Relevant technical diploma or degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
