Job summary

NEOM Green Hydrogen Company in Saudi Arabia seeks an ASU & Utilities Control Room Operator to oversee day-to-day operation of the Air Separation Unit and related utilities, ensuring reliability, safety and efficiency in line with NGHC standards.

You will supervise DCS and alarm systems, troubleshoot plant conditions, and support handover, maintenance, and shift rotations, including nights and weekends, with training and development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent technical experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of ASU/Utilities DCS operation experience.
  • Experience in industrial process plants and safety-driven operations.

Job description

Air Products, ACWA Power, and NEOM have partnered to develop an $8.5 billion green hydrogen-based ammonia production facility in NEOM. The project integrates renewable solar, wind, and storage power to produce green ammonia for global export, with operations scheduled to commence in 2026.

Position Summary

The ASU & Utilities Control Room Operator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Air Separation Unit (ASU) production process and Utilities plants, including Air Separation Unit, GAN supply pipeline, LIN storage tanks and vaporizers, LIN loading station, CW systems, DW systems, and Instrument Air (IA) plant.

The role ensures operations are carried out in accordance with company safety policies and site-specific procedures to achieve reliability, efficiency, and productivity targets while maintaining safe plant operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and monitor the ASU and Utilities plants safely and reliably in accordance with NGHC standards.
  • Supervise DCS, data acquisition, and alarm management systems, responding to both normal and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Troubleshoot plant operating conditions, customer demand changes, and process optimization opportunities.
  • Perform daily and monthly operational routines in accordance with operating procedures, maintenance manuals, and safety requirements.
  • Monitor operational KPIs to ensure plant performance objectives are achieved.
  • Provide operational support during plant shutdown activities.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture with a commitment to achieving zero lost-time injuries.
  • Ensure compliance with EH&S standards during all operational activities.
  • Participate actively in NGHC safety programs and enforce safe work practices.
  • Understand and execute the Emergency Response Plan, taking appropriate action to protect personnel and ensure safe plant shutdown when required.
  • Qualify as a Safe Work Permit Issuer and Confined Space Supervisor, issuing permits as required.
Operations Support & Communication
  • Act as the primary point of contact for daily operational communication with H₂ and NH₃ production units.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards within the control room.
  • Assist with updating operating procedures.
  • Contribute to maintaining site management systems, including MOC, BPs, SWIMs, and JSAs.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Training & Development
  • Provide training and coaching to new operators.
  • Complete all required operational training and successfully pass scheduled competency validation reviews.
  • Act as a trainer for newly assigned operators.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education
  • High school diploma in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in ASU and/or Utilities plant DCS operations.
  • Experience working in a similar operational role within industrial process plants.
Skills & Technical Knowledge
  • Strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.
  • Experience interpreting PFDs, P&IDs, Single Line Diagrams, and Shutdown Matrices.
  • Knowledge of Work Permit systems, Confined Space Entry, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently in a control room environment.
  • Strong prioritization and decision‑making skills.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Team‑oriented, proactive, honest, and eager to learn.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and participate in an on‑call rotation.
  • Technical school qualification, plant maintenance experience, and ASU & Utilities plant experience are considered an advantage.
