ASSISTANT CONSULTANT, GENERAL & UPPER GI SURGERY
GENERAL & UPPER GI SURGERY (Sec)-R | External Job
Assists in providing medical care in the field of General & Upper GI Surgery, and supervises interns and residents, in accordance with current medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations and the Hospital’s policies and procedures
Key responsibilities
- Assists the Consultant in providing required patient care and management in the field of General & Upper GI Surgery, in accordance with standards of medical care laid down by the Hospital.
- Provides high quality patient care in all aspects of General & Upper GI Surgery according to his/her approved clinical privileges.
- Provides consultation (inpatient, and emergency room)upon request and responds in a timely manner within the prescribed timeframe as outlined in the Hospital’s policy.
- Responsible for the timely completion, competencies,accuracy and legibility of the medical record.
- Provides on-call service and ensures availability and response time within the prescribed timeframe in accordance with Hospital policy.
- Conducts daily morning rounds to identify patients readyfor discharge. Ensures that discharge orders are written 24 hours prior todischarge.
- Performs other clinical responsibilities related to thespecialty, as assigned.
- Provides orientation, bedside training and supervision tointerns, residents and fellows as assigned.
- Participates in department’s educational activities andtraining programs of the department. Partakes in national and internationalmedical conferences.
- Maintains and enhances professional knowledge andcontinuing education requirements.
- Participates in clinical, basic and translationalresearch projects in accordance with Research Advisory Council Policy in orderto advance knowledge, improve the quality of postgraduate education andcontribute to the national and international recognition of the Hospital.
- Undertakes the administrative duties assigned by Head ofSection or Chairman.
- Participates in all mandatory departmental activities andserves on Departmental and Hospital committees and other administrativefunctions, as required.
- Assists the department in the development andimplementation of techniques and practices that help maximize the utilizationof all resources within the department and across the Hospital.
- Abides by the current Hospital and medical staff bylaws,all relevant rules, regulations and policies and keeps updated of any changesthat might occur.
- Follows all Hospital’s related Policies and Procedures.
- Participates in self and others' education, training anddevelopment, as applicable.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Two (2) years of training in specialty and subspecialty plus post-training experience required.
