Job summary

Airswift is seeking a Senior Corrosion Engineer for Qatar to lead corrosion control and monitoring across offshore and onshore facilities. You will interpret survey results, develop mitigation plans, and ensure safety, integrity, and environmental standards are met to support production objectives.

The role requires 6+ years in corrosion in oil/gas, expertise in cathodic protection, coatings, and monitoring, and strong English communication with internal teams and external partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Metallurgical, Materials).
  • 6 years' experience in corrosion control and mitigation within oil/gas production.
  • Experience in corrosion systems in sour service and coatings, cathodic protection.
  • Proficient written and spoken English; strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review material and design requirements for new projects and modifications for corrosion programs.
  • Conduct corrosion monitoring, prevention activities, and failure investigations; assess integrity and risk.
  • Develop SOWs and review test reports for corrosion-related contracts and evaluations.
  • Develop painting/coating requirements for pipelines, structures, equipment, and tanks; ensure QC.
  • Provide corrosion engineering guidance to internal teams and external organizations.
  • Develop and maintain corrosion and integrity procedures, standards, and best practices.
  • Review/analyse corrosion reports and perform risk analysis for corrosion-related assessments.
  • Drive innovation in corrosion control and mitigation methods including coatings, CP and materials.

Senior Corrosion Engineer - QATAR
Part A: Job Specification
Job Purpose

Provides broad technical expertise in corrosion engineering ensuring facilities are efficiently monitored and controlled to meet the Company's production objectives in a cost-effective manner while maintaining the highest level of integrity, safety, and environmental compliance. Reviews design specification requirements for new projects and modifications.

Reporting and Relationships

Reports to Lead of Corrosion or Corrosion Engineering Specialist.

Internal Frequent Contact with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Safety, Subsurface and Supply departments

External Frequent contact with Shareholders, Corrosion Consultants and external Laboratories and Research Institutes. Occasional contact with Shareholders. Frequent contact with Corrosion Service Providers and with specialized laboratories for development of SOW for specific investigations, like failure analysis, corrosion simulations, chemicals qualifications, materials sour service qualifications.

Job Context & Major Challenge(s)

Exercises judgment when planning corrosion control and monitoring programs, interpreting survey results, and recommending corrosion mitigation measures. Work requires analytical, interpretative, and constructive thinking, with a significant degree of evaluative judgment. Work is subject to review and direction by direct supervisor, Head of Corrosion and QA/QC & Corrosion Division Manager. Works within established structures, procedures, engineering standards and methodologies developed and implemented by the Head of Corrosion and QA/QC & Corrosion Division Manager. Addresses complex discipline specific related problems and issues. Works within established Safety umbrella, structures, procedures, engineering standards and methodologies.

Key Job Accountabilities
  1. Reviews material and design requirements of new projects and modifications including the design requirement and monitoring criteria for all the Corrosion Programs like Cathodic Protection, protective Coating & Lining, Chemical Inhibition and Corrosion Monitoring Systems and submits recommendations to supervisor.
  2. Conducts corrosion monitoring and prevention activities and corrosion investigation. Includes monitoring Integrity Operating Windows affecting corrosion and equipment life and advising Operational suitability.
  3. Develop SOW and Participate in review of the test reports for technical evaluation of Corrosion related Contracts like Chemical selection for corrosion prevention in pipelines and process plants.
  4. Develops painting/coating requirements for pipelines, structures, equipment and tanks and gives recommendations to supervisor about selection of systems and procedures for proper quality control. Inspects paint condition and works with inspectors to conduct quality control checks for painting jobs.
  5. Provide direct and indirect advice in the field of corrosion engineering to multiple parties or interfacing with or acting as the technical representative with outside organizations (i.e., shareholders, vendors, other corrosion consultants).
  6. Develop new and maintain existing corrosion and integrity related procedures, processes, standards, and best practices as needed in order to maintain compliance with regulatory standards or improve the effectiveness and efficiency of corrosion mitigation. Assess regional corrosion control programs to determine company wide consistency to policies, practices and procedures.
  7. Develop, implement, and steward corrosion engineering programs for company facilities including offshore platforms, pipelines, onshore process facilities, condensate refinery, storage facilities, export and loading facilities and ensure that company utilizes cost effective corrosion control and monitoring equipment.
  8. Review/analyse corrosion engineering reports, test results, failure investigations etc. and provide recommendations for corrective measures or actions to restore equipment functionality, improve equipment performance, or to extend its operating life. Perform the Risk analysis for Corrosion related assessments.
  9. Drive strategic technical innovation and provide expertise and guidance in area of corrosion control and mitigation methods including chemical treatment, cathodic protection, metallic and non-metallic material selection, protective coatings and linings, corrosive process conditions, etc.
  10. Raise PMCRs for Corrosion Studies, or Cathodic Protection and Coatings & Lining changes.
Part B: Person Specification – Minimum Requirements Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Metallurgical, Materials).
  • 6 years' experience in corrosion control and mitigation within the oil/gas production industry.
  • Skilled and competent in chemical inhibition, corrosion monitoring, material selection, degradation mechanisms, and failure analysis for sour service and utilities facilities, protective coatings, corrosion monitoring, chemical inhibition and cathodic protection.
  • Experience in corrosion systems and in plant facilities with sour feed gas and plant exposure to a marine climate, including utilities.
  • Working knowledge of national and local codes, International Codes and Standards, statutory regulations, NDT and inspection techniques.
  • Technical and business skills: proficient written and spoken English, computer literate.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels with the Organisation.
  • Work requires analytical, interpretative and constructive thinking, with a significant degree of evaluative judgment, as well as influential leadership behaviours.
