Job summary

Synopsys, Inc. in Lisbon, Portugal, is seeking a hardware validation engineer to validate high-speed SERDES IP designs (PCI Express, Ethernet) across prototype hardware and lab setups.

You will automate tests, analyze data with Python or MATLAB, read schematics, and collaborate with analog/digital engineers to ensure IP quality and compliance. Remote work options are available during intensive analysis phases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or related field.
• Experience validating hardware with lab instrumentation like oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers.
• Ability to read schematics and PCB layouts.
• Strong programming skills in MATLAB, Python, or C for automation and analysis.
• Proven debugging skills and systematic problem-solving.
• Familiarity with high-speed SERDES (PCIe, Ethernet) or RF concepts is valuable.
• Familiarity with FPGA development (Verilog/VHDL) or serial protocols (JTAG, I2C, SPI) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Validate high-speed SERDES IP designs (PCIe, Ethernet) through electrical and system-level testing on prototype hardware.
• Execute validation plans using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, BER testers, and TDR equipment.
• Debug complex analog/digital circuit behavior on prototype boards from schematics and layouts.
• Develop test automation frameworks and analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, or C).
• Support product certification and interoperability validation with silicon from key manufacturers.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve findings and optimize IP performance.
• Document results and improve test methodologies; provide guidance to junior engineers.

What You'll Be Doing

• Validate high-speed SERDES IP designs including PCI Express and Ethernet through electrical and system-level testing on prototype hardware
• Execute validation test plans using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, BER testers, and TDR equipment to verify signal integrity and standards compliance
• Debug complex analog and digital circuit behavior on prototype boards using schematics and layouts

What You'll Need

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related discipline
• Experience conducting hardware validation using laboratory instrumentation including oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers
• Proficiency reading electrical schematics and PCB layouts
• Strong programming skills in MATLAB, Python, or C for test automation and analysis
• Proven debugging capabilities and systematic problem-solving methodology
• Experience with high-speed circuits, SERDES standards (PCI Express, Ethernet), or RF theory (transmission lines, S-parameters) is highly valued
• Familiarity with FPGA development (Verilog/VHDL) or serial protocols (JTAG, I2C, SPI) is beneficial
