Job summary

DataSmart in Lisbon is seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to join our hybrid team in Lisbon. You will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining SQL Server environments across on‑premises and Azure, ensuring reliability for multiple servers and databases.

Key duties include managing instances, backups, DR planning, performance tuning, and security. You will collaborate with Application, Development, BI, and Infra teams to support mission‑critical data platforms.

Join our team as a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator (Hybrid – Lisbon)!

What You’ll Do:

• Install, configure, administer, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments
• Manage SQL Server instances across hybrid On-Premises and Microsoft Azure infrastructures
• Administer Development, Testing, Quality Assurance, and Production environments
• Support mission-critical database infrastructures with 50+ servers and 500+ databases
• Manage SQL Server version lifecycles, upgrades, and database migrations
• Configure and administer database data files, transaction logs, and storage allocation
• Define and execute backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies
• Implement preventive maintenance plans to ensure database availability and performance
• Create, configure, and maintain SQL Server Agent jobs
• Manage database security, including logins, users, roles, privileges, and auditing
• Develop and maintain Transact-SQL scripts for database administration
• Optimize database performance through index maintenance, statistics updates, and query tuning
• Monitor database processes, transactions, locks, and resource utilization
• Analyze execution plans and identify performance bottlenecks
• Manage database storage, capacity planning, and file maintenance
• Support relational data modelling, including primary keys, foreign keys, cardinality, and data types
• Configure and maintain data replication and high-availability solutions, including Log Shipping, Database Mirroring, Clustering, and Always On
• Support deployments and operations involving SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS
• Collaborate with Application, Development, Business Intelligence, and Infrastructure teams
• Work with multidisciplinary teams, vendors, and partners to resolve technical challenges
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Reviews, and cross-functional squad activities

Qualifications:

• Strong professional experience in Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration
• Proven experience managing large-scale, mission-critical SQL Server environments
• Hands-on experience with hybrid On-Premises and Microsoft Azure database infrastructures
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, and migrations
• Experience administering Development, Testing, QA, and Production environments
• Solid knowledge of backup, restore, disaster recovery, and preventive maintenance strategies
• Advanced Transact-SQL scripting and SQL Server Agent administration skills
• Strong understanding of database security, permissions, roles, and auditing
• Experience with query optimization, execution plans, indexing, statistics, and performance tuning
• Knowledge of database storage management, transaction logs, and capacity optimization
• Experience with SQL Server Profiler and database monitoring/troubleshooting tools
• Solid understanding of relational data modelling and database design principles
• Experience with replication and high-availability technologies, including Always On, Clustering, Log Shipping, and Database Mirroring
• Knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Analysis Services (SSAS), and Reporting Services (SSRS)
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in Agile environments
