Job summary

PRAGMASOFT - a Wirtek company, based in Porto, seeks a TechOps engineer to manage and integrate critical OT systems that monitor and control the grid. You will oversee SCADA databases, GIS records, and ensure data integrity across platforms while driving performance and reliability.

You will work in a high-stakes environment with rigorous processes, using Portuguese fluently and technical English, and benefit from ongoing training within an international technology group.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of SCADA systems (essential) including data modeling, points, alarms and network topology.
• Experience with backup, recovery and performance monitoring processes.
• Experience managing relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server or PostgreSQL) and strong SQL skills.
• Knowledge of GIS systems and electrical network modeling.
• Ability to work in critical environments with a high degree of rigor and responsibility.
• Fluent Portuguese; technical English.

Job description

We are looking for a professional to join the TechOps team of a leading energy operator in Portugal. The role covers managing, integrating and operating strategic systems for the operational technology (OT) infrastructure. The goal is to keep the systems that monitor and control the grid available, accurate and performing well.

What you'll be doing:

• Manage and maintain the SCADA databases, keeping operations-critical data reliable, consistent and performing well.
• Manage and maintain the GIS records of the grid’s physical assets (lines, substations, equipment), which form the basis of the network model.
• Keep data consistent between SCADA and the GIS network records, finding and fixing discrepancies.
• Run and improve backup, recovery and disaster recovery processes.
• Keep optimizing the performance of the databases and the integration processes.
• Document procedures, changes and operational best practices.

What you need to be successful:

• Strong knowledge of SCADA systems (essential), including data modeling, points, alarms and network topology.
• Experience with backup, recovery and performance monitoring processes.
• Experience managing relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server or PostgreSQL) and strong SQL skills.
• Knowledge of GIS systems and electrical network modeling.

Nice to have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field (not required).
• Experience in the electricity sector (distribution or transmission) or in utilities.
• Knowledge of OT protocols (IEC 60870-5-104, IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus).
• Experience with ETL tools or scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
