Job summary

Dremio’s Query Execution team is seeking a Software Engineer to help build and optimize the runtime that turns query plans into efficient execution. You’ll work on query operators, expression evaluation, memory management, and scheduling in a collaborative, high-impact environment.

You’ll learn the internals of the runtime, contribute to performance improvements, and grow through design reviews and cross-team collaboration, with a focus on reliable, tested Java code.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Proficiency in Java or another object-oriented language; willingness to learn in a large Java codebase.
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and basic concurrency concepts.
• Ability to work through well-defined technical problems and apply feedback.

Responsibilities

• Build and support execution-engine components: implement, test, debug, and maintain query operators and scheduling.
• Develop reliable software: write clean Java code, add tests, and follow engineering practices.
• Investigate issues: diagnose correctness, reliability, and performance using profiling, logs, and production data.
• Learn runtime and performance fundamentals: understand vectorized processing, memory usage, and parallelism.
• Collaborate with the team: work with senior engineers and partner teams to deliver incremental improvements.
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools: apply AI tools to code understanding and testing while validating results.
• Grow your engineering skills: participate in design discussions and code reviews.
