Tillster is seeking a Software Engineer – Back End to join our remote team based in Portugal. You will build scalable microservices in a serverless AWS environment, collaborate with product and engineering to deliver robust APIs and services, and participate in design sessions to improve architecture.

Ideal candidates have 3–5+ years of experience with Java, Python or TypeScript in service-oriented architectures, and a strong understanding of databases (Relational or NoSQL).

• Experience with APIs, microservices and reusable libraries.
• Experience with relational or NoSQL data stores.
• Knowledge of Linux/Unix and Windows OSs.
• Strong English communication skills.

About the Role

We are looking for experienced mid to senior Back‑End Developers motivated to build modern event‑driven microservices and platforms.

What You’ll Do

• Build highly scalable microservices in a serverless backend architecture with a continuous delivery pipeline.
• Participate in design sessions to improve the overall architecture of the platform.
• Become well‑versed in AWS technologies and building a modern event‑driven serverless architecture.
• Work with stakeholders and product owners to understand requirements and propose solutions.
• Continuous learning: Tillster provides access to LinkedIn Learning courses to enhance skills.
• Utilize various application integration techniques to communicate with third‑party and legacy/back‑end systems.
• Help develop high‑volume, high‑performance, high‑availability, service‑oriented Java or TypeScript applications using proven frameworks.

About You

• 3‑5+ years’ experience in design and development of service‑oriented Java, Python, C#, TypeScript (or any modern language) applications.
• Design and develop reusable libraries, APIs and microservices.
• Experience in relational or NoSQL data stores.
• Relevant OS knowledge (Linux/Unix and Windows), networking knowledge and experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, with good verbal and written skills.
• Previous experience with Point‑of‑Sale development or payment systems is a plus but not required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or similar) or equivalent experience.
• Prior experience with AWS serverless and companion technologies like DynamoDB, SQS, etc. would be great but not required.

Pay and Benefits (Portugal)

• Compensation competitive to market and geographical location.
• Meal allowance for each day worked available through meal card.
• Home/Office allowance reimbursement per calendar month, pro‑rated based on employment start date.
