Job description

It's been more than 70 years since Volkswagen Financial Services AG financed the first Volkswagen vehicles in Germany in 1949. A lot has changed since then, but our core goal hasn't; ensuring we meet the mobility needs of the people.

Volkswagen Financial Services today operates in 48 markets through its various subsidiaries, shareholdings, and joint ventures. Volkswagen Financial Services is the largest provider of automotive financial services worldwide.

At VWFS Porto, we are proud to foster a gender-equal workplace, where diversity is celebrated, and every individual is provided with equal opportunities to thrive and succeed.

Role objective

As a Senior Salesforce Integration Engineer, you will help internalise and retain the technical knowledge required to govern, evolve, and support the product integration landscape. Your primary focus will be the detailed technical quality assurance of integration concepts and implementation artefacts, guidance of internal and external developers, and maintenance of an end-to-end understanding of productive integration scenarios.

You will work within the international CRM Market Germany product team under the direction of the respective Product Owner, collaborating with solution architects, Salesforce specialists, integration teams, security, operations, business stakeholders, and delivery partners. You will also contribute directly to development activities when required and when capacity permits.

The role covers a broad Salesforce and enterprise integration landscape, including:

  • Salesforce Data Cloud integration with the enterprise Data Lakehouse
  • Bidirectional integration between Salesforce Data Cloud and Automotive Cloud.
  • Process integration between Automotive Cloud and Salesforce and non-Salesforce business applications.
  • Integration between Automotive Cloud and Marketing Cloud.
  • Microsoft Exchange service integration.
  • Integration with centralized Identity and Access Management solution, including an IAM platform implemented with SailPoint and identity provider services.
  • Integration between the German Data Cloud and other Data Cloud installations.
  • UI integration between Automotive Cloud and systems of record using attended and unattended automation
In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Design and implement secure integrations between Salesforce solutions and internal or external enterprise systems when required.
  • Develop new integration concepts and solution designs, and set up new integrations from initial conception through productive implementation.
  • Translate functional and technical requirements into robust integration flows, API contracts, data mappings, validation rules, and error-handling mechanisms.
  • Develop and consume REST, SOAP, Bulk API, Platform Events, Change Data Capture, webhooks, and other asynchronous integration patterns where appropriate.
  • Implement integration logic using the selected enterprise middleware or integration platform, such as MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, IBM DataPower, SAP PI/PO, or an equivalent technology.
  • Work with Salesforce teams on data models, business processes, Named Credentials, Connected Apps, authentication, platform limits, and integration constraints.
Security, resilience, and operations
  • Apply secure integration practices, including OAuth 2.0, JWT, TLS, certificate-based authentication, encryption, secrets management, least-privilege access, and protection of sensitive customer data.
  • Design for reliability, observability, performance, scalability, and supportability, including validation, idempotency, retries, logging, monitoring, alerting, reconciliation, and error recovery.
  • Support environment configuration, deployment coordination, release activities, technical validation, and post-deployment checks.
  • Investigate and resolve integration incidents, API failures, data inconsistencies, authentication issues, and performance bottlenecks across application, middleware, network, identity, and data layers.
  • Maintain interface specifications, data mappings, sequence diagrams, architecture decisions, operational runbooks, and support procedures.
  • Produce and continuously update the technical and operational documentation required for each integration throughout its lifecycle.
Engineering quality and delivery practices
  • Develop and review automated unit, component, contract, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests.
  • Maintain source-controlled integration assets and contribute to Git-based CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or comparable tooling.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, backlog refinement, design reviews, code reviews, release planning, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Contribute hands-on development capacity across the integration lifecycle according to product priorities, including conception, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
Internal ownership and knowledge retention
  • Internalize, retain, and continuously develop the technical knowledge of the product integration landscape from the beginning of the project.
  • Maintain an end-to-end overview of productive integration scenarios, interfaces, dependencies, data flows, ownership, and operational risks.
  • Ensure that knowledge, design decisions, and operational procedures are documented and transferable within the internal team.
  • Act as the responsible maintainer of the integration documentation, ensuring that interface specifications, integration concepts, data mappings, architecture decisions, operational procedures, and support documentation remain complete, accurate, up to date, and compliant with VWFS internal documentation standards.
  • Support the long-term capability to assess, change, and maintain integrations without avoidable dependency on external suppliers.
Technical quality assurance and governance
  • Perform detailed technical quality assurance of integration concepts, solution designs, API contracts, data mappings, source code, configuration, test evidence, and operational documentation.
  • Review deliverables from implementation partners against agreed architecture, security, reliability, supportability, and engineering standards.
  • Identify technical gaps, risks, inconsistencies, and improvement needs, and drive their resolution with the responsible delivery teams.
  • Contribute to architecture, security, design, and code reviews, providing clear technical recommendations and constructive challenge.
  • Support the Product Owner and solution architects in assessing feasibility, dependencies, implementation options, and technical quality.
Technical leadership and delivery guidance
  • Provide senior-level technical consultancy and guidance to internal and external integration developers.
  • Promote reusable integration patterns, consistent engineering practices, and clear quality expectations across the feature team.
  • Support developers with complex integration decisions, troubleshooting, and the resolution of cross-system issues.
  • Coordinate effectively with Salesforce, middleware, data, identity, network, security, and operations specialists.

  • Strong knowledge of REST and SOAP APIs, JSON, XML, webhooks, asynchronous messaging, event-driven architecture, and common enterprise integration patterns.
  • Practical experience with Salesforce integration capabilities such as REST API, SOAP API, Bulk API, Platform Events, Change Data Capture, Named Credentials, and Connected Apps.
  • Working knowledge of Apex and Salesforce configuration for integration-related components, troubleshooting, and collaboration with Salesforce development teams.
  • Experience with an enterprise integration or middleware platform such as MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, IBM DataPower, SAP PI/PO, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of authentication and security standards, including OAuth 2.0, JWT, TLS, certificates, API security, identity and access management, and secure software development.
  • Experience with Git-based development, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and controlled deployment processes; Azure DevOps experience is preferred.
  • Ability to assess the technical quality of integration designs, code, test evidence, documentation, and supplier deliverables.
  • Experience guiding developers and providing technical consultancy in an international, cross-functional delivery environment.
