Job summary

Amadeus, a global leader in travel technology, seeks a Senior Research Engineer to advance computer vision and biometric solutions from research to production. • Ensure rigor, fairness and compliance with EU AI Act, GDPR, ICAO, ISO and NIST standards, while assessing accuracy, robustness, bias, security and privacy.
• Influence product and technology roadmaps, collaborate with cross-functional teams, resolve complex technical challenges, and contribute to European projects.
• Ensure code and algorithms follow best practices for security, governance and software lifecycle management.
• Generate patents, publications and trade secrets, and mentor the next generation of researchers.

Senior Research Engineer

Join Amadeus, a global leader in travel technology, and help shape the future of computer vision and digital identity solutions. As a Senior Research Scientist, you will bring advanced computer vision, machine learning and biometric technologies from research to production, powering products like Seamless Travel used by travelers worldwide. You will set the scientific direction for our applied-research roadmap, guide a collaborative, largely remote team across Lisbon and Porto/Gaia, and deliver robust, scalable and responsible AI solutions that make travel simpler, safer and more secure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define the applied-research strategy for face recognition, image quality, anti-spoofing and innovative biometric capture pipelines
• Set best practices from data acquisition, annotation and dataset governance through to model training, deployment, monitoring and retirement
• Ensure rigor, fairness and compliance with the EU AI Act, GDPR, ICAO, ISO and NIST standards, while continuously assessing accuracy, robustness, bias, security and privacy
• Influence product and technology roadmaps, collaborate with teams such as Device Management and Services, resolve complex technical challenges and escalated SDK support requests, and contribute to European projects
• Ensure code and algorithms follow best practices for security, governance and software lifecycle management
• Generate patents, publications and trade secrets, and mentor the next generation of researchers

About The Ideal Candidate:

• 5+ years of experience in computer vision, machine learning or related fields, in industry or public research institutions;
• A proven track record of delivering innovative research that has become production-ready solutions;
• Deep expertise in deep learning for image-based tasks, with strong Python skills and hands-on model training experience;
• Scientific credentials: a PhD in computer vision or a related field is preferred, and publications or academic research experience are valued;
• Adaptable and independent, comfortable with ambiguity and working across different tools, machines and technologies, with strong communication and a passion for mentoring;
• Nice to have: biometrics experience (internal training is provided), plus software engineering and C# skills.
