Job summary

Amadeus is seeking a Senior Research Engineer to lead the applied-research roadmap in computer vision and biometric technologies. You will guide a largely remote team across Lisbon and Porto/Gaia, delivering robust, scalable, responsible AI that powers travel solutions used globally.

You will set scientific direction, mentor upcoming researchers, and collaborate across devices and services while ensuring compliance with EU standards and best practices in software lifecycle management.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in computer vision, ML or related fields.
• Proven track record delivering research that became production-ready.
• Deep learning for image-based tasks; strong Python skills and model training experience.
• PhD preferred; publications or academic research valued.
• Adaptable, independent and able to mentor others; strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Define applied-research strategy for face recognition, image quality, anti-spoofing and biometric pipelines.
• Set data acquisition, annotation, dataset governance, model training, deployment, monitoring and retirement best practices.
• Ensure rigor, fairness and compliance with EU AI Act, GDPR, ICAO, ISO and NIST standards; assess accuracy, robustness, bias, security and privacy.
• Influence product and technology roadmaps; collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to European projects.
• Ensure code and algorithms follow best practices for security and governance; generate patents and publications; mentor researchers.
