With a talented team of over 600 people across Ireland and the UK, we are rapidly expanding our workforce across several disciplines to meet our ambitious growth plans.

Glanua Engenharia is the Portuguese‑based Technical Hub of the Glanua Group, a leading provider of innovative and sustainable engineering solutions across Ireland and the UK. Established to support the design and delivery of critical water and wastewater infrastructure, our Lisbon office brings together expertise in mechanical, electrical, automation, process and structural design. At Glanua Engenharia, we are driven by a shared mission to tackle environmental challenges and contribute to a cleaner, decarbonised, and more sustainable world.

The Role

As Senior Process Design Engineer, you will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary engineering team to bring water and wastewater infrastructure projects from concept stage through to construction, commissioning and into operations. In this end‑to‑end role you will develop engineering design solutions to meet the client’s needs, following through to the process commissioning stage to ensure the successful outcome of the project.

You will work in a one‑team culture while actively contributing to your own skills and experience. The role is primarily involved in process design, but due to the nature of multi‑disciplinary work you will also be exposed to mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control and automation (MEICA) as well as civil engineering and building. This will present a wide multi‑disciplinary engineering knowledge base and an opportunity to progress your career. You will work within a team based in Ireland and/or UK offices and will be managed largely remotely, requiring you to work on your own initiative.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a team in the delivery of one or more projects, embracing the ethos of a “one team” culture.
  • Ensure health, safety, environmental & sustainability standards, policies and procedures are developed into the proposed designs.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with all key stakeholders including clients, client representatives and third‑party agencies.
  • Occasional travel to Irish and UK sites as required.
  • Ensure a positive experience for the client and their representatives, instilling an ethos of collaboration and cooperation.
  • Develop thorough understanding of client specifications.
  • Take design inputs such as project brief and develop design options presenting these to the Design Manager and wider project teams.
  • Engage with discipline leads and design managers to ensure deliverables are achieved in a timely manner.
  • Review project briefs and employers’ requirements, seek clarification to confirm scope definition.
  • Ensure a thorough understanding of projects, objectives and required outcomes and follow these through with the proposed design.
  • Make computations of process and hydraulic design calculations for a wide range of water and wastewater chemical, physical and biological treatment processes.
  • Prepare process systems and equipment specifications and equipment selection, including the development of schedules for equipment, structures, valves, pipes or other items required for supporting other teams.
  • Prepare contractor’s design technical proposals and drawings, ensuring all submissions maintain good quality inline with Glanua standards and client’s technical specifications.
  • Prepare process control philosophies to ensure the design intent is carried forward into the automated functionality of the water or wastewater treatment plant.
  • Take ownership of allocated projects, ensure design activities are completed in a timely manner and report on progress to the Design Manager.
  • Respond to any client queries or clarifications arising from the design review process expeditiously.
  • Prepare and submit any design derogations as required.
  • Conduct site assessments and prepare site assessment reports, making recommendations on potential design solutions.
  • Present designs at design review workshops and HAZOPs, ensuring all resulting actions are closed in a timely manner.
  • Co‑ordinate with the PSDP and other designers in the design phase, ensuring best practice principles of prevention are adopted.
  • Provide a review of final design and contract documentation and provide feedback on red‑line documents.
  • Build and promote industry‑leading teams by providing training and mentoring to more junior staff.
  • Assist in the compilation of tender stage design proposals from time to time as required.
  • Seek to improve the design delivery process by providing lessons learned feedback and innovative solutions for adoption on future projects.
  • Keep appraised of the latest standards and technology through continuous professional development (CPD).
