HumanIT is seeking a Senior Node.js Developer for a fully remote role in Portugal. You will design and implement scalable backend services in TypeScript, collaborating with frontend developers and owning code from development to production, all in an Agile setup.

The role focuses on performance, security, and reliability for cloud-based systems, with emphasis on REST/GraphQL, asynchronous workflows, and strong testing disciplines. English fluency is required.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Join an established international software engineering company delivering cloud-based products for clients across Europe, North America and Asia. This is a fully remote role for candidates based in Portugal.

PROJECT & CONTEXT

You'll build highly performant and secure backend services used by thousands of customers and handling millions in monthly transaction revenue. Expect to design and implement cloud-native solutions, work closely with front-end engineers, and take full ownership of your code from development through deployment, monitoring and production troubleshooting. The team works in an Agile, iterative setup with a strong operational mindset — metrics collection, performance and platform-wide thinking are part of everyday engineering, not an afterthought.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (Required)

• Strong TypeScript 5.x skills, including typing of asynchronous and event-driven code
• Proven track record building performant, resilient and secure backend services
• Experience with asynchronous and event-driven workflows (queues, streams, pub/sub)
• Deep understanding of HTTP, REST and/or GraphQL and service-oriented architectural patterns
• Testing as a first-class practice: unit and integration testing (Jest, Vitest or equivalent) with maintained coverage
• Git-based version control within a continuous delivery process
• Comfortable working autonomously with little supervision towards shared team goals
• Fluent English (written and spoken) — the working language of the team

NICE TO HAVE (Preferred)

• Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP or Azure
• SQL (PostgreSQL 14+, MySQL 8) and NoSQL (MongoDB 6+, DynamoDB, Redis 7) data stores
• React 18+ exposure for closer collaboration with front-end teams
• Code quality tooling: ESLint 8+, Prettier, static analysis and type checkers
• Agile delivery experience with Scrum or Kanban
• Integration work between systems such as warehouse management and eCommerce platforms
• Docker and CI/CD pipeline experience
• Portuguese language skills (not required)

Compensation: €2,500 – €3,250/month net, depending on experience and seniority level.
