Job summary

Costaterra Golf & Ocean Club, part of DLC - Discovery Land Company, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Lead for its Development & Construction team in Comporta, Portugal. You will lead MEP coordination, review designs and manage contractors to ensure quality and timely delivery.

The role requires 8–12 years of relevant experience, strong HVAC/plumbing/fire protection knowledge, and fluency in Portuguese and English.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 8–12 years designing and delivering complex building projects.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and wet utilities.
• Experience coordinating with consultants, contractors and suppliers.
• Fluency in Portuguese and English preferred.

Responsibilities

• Act as the Developer’s representative for all MEP matters.
• Review designs for quality, compliance and operability.
• Coordinate MEP interfaces with architecture, structures and interiors.
• Support procurement actions, tender reviews and contractor selection.
• Monitor construction progress, quality and performance.
• Review submittals, shop drawings and method statements.
• Oversee cost control, value engineering and change management.
• Oversee testing, commissioning and handover activities.
• Coordinate with operators and facilities teams for readiness.
• Prepare progress, risk and decision reports.

To support the continued delivery of its growing portfolio of residential projects, CostaTerra is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Lead to join its Development & Construction team.

What you will do?

• Act as the Developer’s representative for all MEP matters.
• Review designs for quality, compliance, constructability, maintainability, and operational suitability.
• Coordinate MEP interfaces with architecture, structures, civil works, interiors, landscape, and infrastructure.
• Support procurement activities, including tender reviews, technical evaluations, and contractor selection.
• Monitor construction progress, quality, and contractor performance.
• Review and approve MEP submittals, shop drawings, material submissions, and method statements.
• Support cost control, value engineering, variation assessments, and change management.
• Oversee testing, commissioning, integrated systems testing, and handover activities.
• Coordinate with operators, facilities management teams, and stakeholders to ensure operational readiness.
• Prepare reports on progress, risks, technical issues, and key project decisions.

What are we looking for?

• Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering discipline.
• 8-12 years of relevant experience in design and delivery of complex building projects.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and wet utility infrastructure systems.
• Understanding of medium, low and extra low voltage (telecommunications, CCTV, access control, AV, etc).
• Experience managing consultants, contractors, and specialist suppliers.
• Knowledge of design coordination, construction supervision, commissioning, and project delivery processes.
• Experience in hospitality, luxury residential, mixed-use, healthcare, or commercial developments is desirable.
• Experience working in a developer, PMC, consultancy, or contractor environment is advantageous.
• Fluent in Portuguese and English.
