Job summary

Amadeus is seeking a Senior Research Engineer to push the frontier of computer vision and biometric solutions, transitioning research into scalable, responsible AI that underpins Seamless Travel products used globally. You will guide a largely remote team across Lisbon and Porto/Gaia, shaping the applied-research roadmap and collaborating with cross-functional groups.

The ideal candidate has a PhD or strong publications, 5+ years in CV/ML, deep learning for image tasks, and Python expertise,

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in computer vision, ML or related fields.
• Proven track record delivering research that became production-ready.
• Deep learning for image-based tasks with strong Python skills and hands-on model training.
• PhD preferred; publications or academic research valued.
• Adaptable and independent with strong communication and mentoring abilities.
• Nice to have biometrics experience and software engineering knowledge (C#).

Responsibilities

• Define the applied-research strategy for face recognition, image quality, anti-spoofing and biometric capture pipelines.
• Set best practices from data acquisition to deployment, monitoring and retirement.
• Ensure rigor, fairness and compliance with EU AI Act, GDPR, ICAO, ISO and NIST.
• Influence product and technology roadmaps; collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Ensure code and algorithms follow security and lifecycle governance.
• Generate patents and publications; mentor the next generation of researchers.
