Job summary

Loka, a globally distributed tech consultancy based in Silicon Valley, is seeking an Advanced Backend Engineer to join our growing team. In this role you’ll design and implement backend solutions across multiple projects, with emphasis on Python and/or Node.js development, performance, security and reliability.

You will collaborate with machine learning and data teams, work remotely, benefit from our incubator, and enjoy flexible practices such as every other Friday off.

Qualifications

• 3+ years backend development
• Fluent in Python or NodeJs (Typescript)
• Strong CS foundation
• Understanding of API/Web protocols (OpenAPI, gRPC)
• Understand concurrency concepts in APIs/Web
• Understand cloud services and landscape
• Understand traditional and serverless architectures
• Capable of working container-first

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement backend components across APIs, serverless functions and data stores
• Contribute to architectural decisions with performance and constraints in mind
• Apply security and data-protection best practices
• Maintain tests and write clean code and documentation
• Work with leads and clients to gather requirements and report progress
• Grow through our career track with autonomy and teamwork
• Report to a Backend Lead
• Keep up with industry trends and new tools
• Collaborate with ML/Data teams for integration
• Own assigned tasks and outcomes
