Loka, a globally distributed tech consultancy, is hiring a Junior Backend Engineer to work remotely from Lisbon, Portugal. You’ll grow with experienced engineers, contributing to backend components, APIs, and serverless solutions while learning from mentors and expanding your skill set.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of backend development experience.
• Fluency in Python or Node.js (TypeScript).
• Solid computer science foundation.
• Understanding of API/Web communication protocols (OpenAPI, gRPC).
• Understand concurrency concepts in APIs/Web.
• Capable of working container‑first.

Responsibilities

• Build backend components like APIs, serverless functions, queue systems, and data storage services under guidance.
• Join design discussions to learn architectural decisions and ask questions as you learn.
• Write clean, well‑tested code and clear documentation; participate in code reviews.
• Collaborate with teams across ML, Data Engineering and more; report to a Backend Lead.
