Job summary

Next Engineering in Porto is seeking a Senior AWS Database Administrator with 5+ years of experience managing mission-critical databases on AWS. You will install, configure, and maintain AWS RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL & MySQL, and Redshift across production environments, and perform advanced database performance tuning to ensure scalability and efficiency.

You will provide end-to-end support for database layers, participate in shift rotations and on-call duties, and work daily in Linux environments

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years managing mission-critical databases on AWS.
• Experience with AWS RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL/MySQL, and Redshift.
• Ability to perform advanced database performance tuning and optimization.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end support for database layers; participate in shift rotations and on-call duties.
• Operate daily in Linux environments; use shell scripting and diagnostic tools for root-cause investigations.

• Experience: Minimum 5+ years managing mission‑critical databases on AWS with a proven track record of operational ownership.
• Core platforms: Install, configure, and maintain AWS RDS, Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL & MySQL), and Amazon Redshift across production environments.
• Performance and optimization: Perform advanced database performance tuning and query optimization to ensure scalability and efficiency.
• End‑to‑end support: Provide 360° support for database layers across diverse technologies, including participation in shift rotations and on‑call duties.
• Operational tooling and troubleshooting: Work daily in Linux environments; use shell scripting, process management, log analysis, and diagnostic tools for root‑cause investigations.
• Collaboration and architecture: Collaborate with cross‑functional and international teams, contribute to architectural discussions, and influence technology strategy.
• Communication and schedule: Strong English (B2) communication skills; able to work a hybrid model (3 days on‑site) and a shift‑based schedule (10‑hour shifts, on‑call ~1 week/month).
