Tonic App is seeking a Senior AI Engineer in Porto to design, build, and maintain AI-driven features and backend services. You will work with product, data, and engineering to ship reliable, production-grade AI capabilities and ensure compliant design and testing in regulated contexts.

You will implement scalable workflows, integrate LLMs into product experiences, and optimize performance while upholding strong engineering and security practices. Proficiency in Python and English is essential.

Qualificações

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in ML/AI engineering.
• Proficiency in Python and LangChain (or equivalents) with practical experience integrating LLMs into scalable product workflows (e.g., vector databases, embedding pipelines, orchestration, tracing, observability).
• Solid full-stack engineering capability, including building backend APIs/services, integrating models into production workflows, and basic frontend development for testing product experiences.
• Ability to own delivery of AI features end-to-end, from spec through production deployment.
• Knowledge of AI ethics and responsible AI is valued.
• Excellent analytical skills with sound engineering judgment and hands-on mindset.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in multidisciplinary, regulated environments.
• Work proficiency in English.

Responsabilidades

• Build and maintain backend services/APIs for AI features in production.
• Monitor, debug, and iterate on deployed models/pipelines based on production performance and user feedback.
• Optimize LLM inference cost and latency.
• Ensure best practices in MLOps, security, and scalability.
• Contribute to evaluation frameworks, including benchmarking, performance metrics, and validation in regulated environments (e.g., medical devices).
• Contribute to robust technical documentation and regulatory certification support.
• Foster curiosity, innovation, and technical excellence within the team.
