Job summary

Axelera AI is hiring a Senior AI Application Engineer to own LLM and VLM support for Metis and Europa AIPUs. You will study new models, prototype on our hardware, and ship features in the Voyager SDK with robust APIs and tests.

You’ll combine AI inference expertise with software engineering to implement end-to-end pipelines, contracts, and documentation, while leveraging AI coding agents to accelerate development. Remote work across Europe is supported.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years on ML inference, ML systems or ML tooling.
• Solid understanding of transformer inference: attention variants, KV caching, prefill versus decode, sampling, tokenization, and how a VLM joins a vision encoder to a language model.
• Working knowledge of LLM quantization (weight-only and weight-activation schemes, calibration, outlier handling), and the ability to tell a quantization loss from an implementation bug.
• Strong Python and PyTorch, and experience shipping production-quality software.
• Daily use of AI coding agents on real codebases, with good judgment about when to verify or reject their output.
• Ability to turn research code and hardware constraints into a practical design.

Responsibilities

• LLM/VLM study: study new models and architectures and prototype them on Metis and Europa hardware.
• Productization: turn results into Voyager SDK features with stable APIs and tests.
• Model-side contracts: own the PyTorch reference with quantization baked in and input/output contracts.
• Pipeline integration: integrate LLM/VLM serving into the Voyager SDK pipeline builder.
• Quality: measure accuracy vs. reference and explain gaps.
• GenAI direction: advise Voyager SDK needs for GenAI, agents and edge speech.
