Job summary

Upwork is seeking experienced Structural Engineers to design AI training tasks that cover structural analysis, design, and simulation. You will create problem statements and reference solutions, using OpenSees to build tasks and establish scoring criteria for evaluation.

Ideal candidates have a Civil/Structural Engineering background with hands-on OpenSees experience and strong command of design codes; this is a fully remote, contract-based opportunity with flexible hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or related field required; Master's/PhD a plus.
• Professional experience in structural analysis and design.
• Hands-on experience using OpenSees.
• Knowledge of design standards: ACI 318, AISC 360, or Eurocode EN 1992/1993/1998.
• Experience with nonlinear modeling, response spectrum, pushover or performance-based design.
• Excellent written English communication and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Design realistic AI training tasks based on structural engineering concepts and real-world design challenges.
• Create clear engineering problem statements covering structural analysis, design, simulation, and code compliance.
• Develop reference solutions and deterministic scoring criteria to evaluate AI-generated responses.
• Build engineering tasks using OpenSees and other structural engineering methodologies.
• Review AI-generated engineering solutions for technical accuracy and compliance with design codes.
• Provide structured feedback to improve AI performance in structural engineering.
