Oliver Bernard is seeking a Principal Backend Engineer in Porto, operating hybrid with offices 2–3 days per week. The role focuses on technical leadership, scalable backend systems, and shaping platform strategy for a fintech software stack used by international markets.

You will mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and raise engineering standards while collaborating with product and leadership to deliver robust, cloud-native services.

Qualificações

• 8+ years building and operating large-scale backend systems in production.
• Experience working at Staff or Principal Engineer level.
• Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Docker and Kubernetes.

Principal Backend Engineer – Porto (Hybrid) | Up to €130k + Bonus

As a Principal Backend Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across several engineering teams, driving architectural decisions, mentoring senior engineers, and helping define engineering best practices across the organisation

What You'll Be Doing:

• Design and evolve highly scalable, cloud-native backend systems

What We're Looking For:

• 8+ years building and operating large-scale backend systems in production
• Experience working at Staff or Principal Engineer level

• Experience designing distributed systems with a focus on scalability, resilience and performance Hands-on experience with AWS, Docker and Kubernetes

Location: Porto, hybrid working (2-3 days per week in the office)

Package: salary up to €130,000 plus bonus
