Job summary

Extia Group in Portugal is seeking a Senior Power BI Developer to design, develop, and maintain enterprise-scale dashboards and data models across multiple source systems. You will write complex SQL, optimize performance, and implement dynamic date parameters.

You will lead technical reviews, mentor junior developers, and ensure data accuracy and governance within Power BI ecosystems, including DAX calculations, RLS, gateways, and workspace administration.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience in BI/Data Analytics with a focus on Microsoft BI stack.
• Proven expertise in Power BI, dashboard development, data modeling, and Service administration.
• Advanced SQL skills with complex queries, subqueries, CTEs, JOINs, and aggregations.
• Experience with dynamic SQL queries for historical data extraction and time-series logic.
• Strong DAX capabilities including time intelligence and complex measures.
• Knowledge of governance: gateways, RLS, and workspace management.
• Proven leadership abilities: mentoring, code reviews, and best-practices.
• Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-level Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models across multiple source systems.
• Write, debug, and optimize complex SQL queries for data extraction and transformation.
• Develop dynamic SQL for historical data extraction and time-series analysis.
• Integrate SQL queries into Power BI using dynamic parameters to optimize data loads.
• Develop and optimize advanced DAX calculations and measures.
• Monitor and optimize Power BI reports, dashboards, and performance; improve refresh times.
• Manage the Power BI environment: Desktop, Service, gateways, RLS, and workspaces.
• Provide technical leadership, conduct code reviews, and promote best practices.
• Mentor junior/mid-level developers and foster knowledge sharing.

First who:

• Experienced and proactive Senior Power BI Developer with at least 8 years of professional experience in Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, or Data Analytics, particularly within the Microsoft BI ecosystem.
• Strong expertise in Power BI, including the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise-level dashboards, reports, and data models.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL, with the ability to write, debug, and optimize complex queries involving subqueries, CTEs, JOINs, UNIONs, WHERE clauses, and aggregation functions.
• Solid experience with dynamic SQL querying, particularly historical data extraction using dynamic date parameters, time-series logic, and customized SQL queries within Power BI.
• Expert-level knowledge of DAX, including complex calculations, time intelligence, filter context manipulation, and nested measures.
• Strong understanding of the Power BI ecosystem, including Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, gateway configurations, Row-Level Security (RLS), and workspace administration.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data structures into meaningful business insights.
• Proven leadership skills, with the ability to provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, establish best practices, and mentor junior and mid-level developers.
• Fluent English; French proficiency is considered a strong advantage.

What You'll Do:

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-level Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models, ensuring alignment with business requirements and stakeholder expectations.
• Write, debug, and optimize complex SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from multiple source systems, using advanced SELECT statements, subqueries, CTEs, JOINs, UNIONs, and aggregation functions.
• Design and adapt dynamic SQL queries for historical data extraction, implementing dynamic date filters and time-series logic to retrieve accurate historical datasets.
• Integrate customized SQL queries directly into Power BI, using dynamic parameters to optimize data retrieval and improve data load performance.
• Develop, maintain, and optimize advanced DAX calculations and measures, supporting complex business logic, time intelligence, and sophisticated analytical requirements.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize Power BI reports and dashboards, improving refresh times, query performance, and the overall end-user experience.
• Manage and support the Power BI environment, including Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, gateway configurations, Row-Level Security (RLS), and workspace administration.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability across dashboards, reports, and underlying data models.
• Provide technical leadership within the team by reviewing code, sharing best practices, and guiding technical decisions.
• Mentor junior and mid-level developers, supporting their technical development and promoting knowledge sharing within the team.

What We're Looking For:

• Proven expertise in Power BI, including dashboard development, data modelling, report optimization, and Power BI Service administration.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL, with hands-on experience writing and optimizing complex queries involving subqueries, CTEs, JOINs, UNIONs, and aggregation functions.
• Demonstrated experience with dynamic SQL queries, historical data extraction, dynamic date parameters, and customized SQL integration within Power BI.
• Strong command of DAX, including advanced formulas, time intelligence, filter context manipulation, and complex measures.
• Good understanding of Power BI governance and administration, including gateways, Row-Level Security (RLS), and workspaces.
• Experience optimizing report performance, data refresh processes, and underlying SQL queries.
• Proven leadership abilities, with experience mentoring team members, conducting code reviews, and contributing to technical best practices.
• Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) certification, or equivalent is considered a strong advantage.
