Job summary

CTS Group in Lisbon/Porto, Portugal, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and deliver mechanical systems for large-scale Data Centers. You will size HVAC components and develop complete system designs for on-site projects.

The role requires experience with HVAC for data centers, proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, and advanced English. On-site work in Lisbon or Porto is mandatory, with opportunities for professional growth within an international team.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Size air conditioning, ventilation, pump, pipe, fan and duct systems.
• Perform Thermal Load calculations using tools like IES, HAP or Trace.
• Create P&ID and PFD diagrams using AutoCAD and Revit.
• Select specialist equipment (Chillers, Fan Coils, CRAHs, AHUs).
• Produce complete system designs from scratch based on requirements.
• Write technical specifications, reports and documentation.
• Ensure designs comply with project specs, standards and codes.
• Coordinate interfaces between mechanical and electrical/fire/structural/acoustic domains.
• Contribute to concept refinement and cost/quality/schedule improvements.
• Support BID processes with technical input.

Ready to design and engineer mission-critical systems for a major Data Center project?

CTS Group is a fast-growing and dynamic company, specializing in the design and build of large-scale Data Centers across multiple countries, including Scandinavia, Europe, and the Middle East. We are rapidly expanding into other markets globally. In addition to D&B, we develop and produce digital systems tailored for the Data Center industry and standardized self-contained units.

We’re looking for an Mechanical Design Engineer (m/f/d) to join our Mechanical Engineering team in Lisbon/Porto.

What will you be doing?

• Sizing air conditioning, ventilation, pump, pipe, fan, and duct systems
• Developing Thermal Load calculations using tools like IES, HAP, or Trace
• Creating P&ID and PFD diagrams using AutoCAD and Revit
• Selecting specialist equipment including Chillers, Fan Coils, CRAHs, and AHUs
• Producing complete system designs from scratch based on technical requirements and starting points
• Writing comprehensive technical specifications, reports, and documentation
• Checking designs for compliance with project specifications, contracts, industry standards, and local/international codes
• Managing technical interfaces between mechanical systems and electrical, fire safety, structural, and acoustic requirements
• Working alongside other design and engineering professionals to refine concept designs
• Proposing proactive initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and design consistency
• Providing key technical support during the BID process.

What are we looking for?

Your technical and professional background:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering Experience level

• Experience (multiple levels) in electrical design or related engineering functions:

• Junior: 1 to 3 years of experience
• Intermediate: 4 to 7 years of experience
• Senior: Minimum 8 years of experience, including 2+ years of direct experience with Data Centres or comparable mission-critical infrastructure

• Solid background in HVAC design (Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning) for industry, office buildings, clean rooms, or Data Centres Extensive knowledge of cooling technologies, air handling/treatment installations, and supporting mechanical systems (piping, pumps, ducts, fans)
• Familiarity with Data Centre international and local standards (e.g., ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, TIA, EN50600)
• Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Revit) and calculation software (IES, HAP, Trace)
• Advanced English proficiency — mandatory
• Availability to work on-site
