Job summary

The Standard, Lisbon is opening in 2027 and is seeking an HR Intern to help recruit, welcome and engage the 150 employees who will bring this bold new hotel to life.

Join our HR team to gain hands-on experience in recruitment, onboarding, HR administration and employee relations as we prepare for day one. This internship in Portugal combines energy, learning, and real impact in a fast-paced pre-opening environment.

Qualifications

• Second or third-year student studying HR, Hospitality Management, Business Management or related discipline.
• Genuine interest in HR, recruitment, employee engagement and the people side of hospitality.
• Warm, confident and comfortable connecting with people at all levels of an organisation.
• Energy, creativity, curiosity and a proactive, hands-on approach.
• Excellent administrative and organisational skills, with strong attention to detail and confidentiality.
• Team player eager to learn, contribute ideas and embrace new challenges.
• Interest in lifestyle hospitality, music, art, culture and creating engaging workplace experiences.
• Good working knowledge of Portuguese and English; additional languages are a plus.
• Flexible, adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced pre-opening environment.
• Eligible to undertake an internship in Portugal.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, welcome and engage the 150 employees who will bring The Standard, Lisbon to life.
• Assist in recruitment, interview coordination and onboarding along with HR administration and employee records.
• Maintain our HR systems and contribute to exciting HR projects before opening day.
• Organise employee events and engagement initiatives to create an engaging workplace culture.
• Shadow HR leadership, gain exposure to Portuguese employment legislation and employee relations.

Your role

As our HR Intern, you'll join us at one of the most exciting moments in a hotel's journey: the countdown to opening. Working alongside our HR team, you'll gain hands‑on experience of what it takes to recruit, welcome and engage the 150 employees who will bring The Standard, Lisbon to life.

You’ll support a wide range of HR activities, from recruitment, interview coordination and onboarding to HR administration, employee records and maintaining our HR systems. You’ll also get involved in organising employee events, social activities and engagement initiatives that help create our unique 'Anything but Standard' workplace culture.

Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to shadow our HR leadership team, gain exposure to Portuguese employment legislation and employee relations, and contribute to exciting HR projects as we prepare for opening day. This isn't your typical internship. You'll experience the energy, challenges and unforgettable moments of building a hotel team from the ground up, learning from experienced HR professionals and making your mark before we even open our doors.

We're looking for someone with personality, curiosity and enthusiasm. Someone who loves working with people, isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves, share ideas and embrace the unexpected. After all, we're anything but standard.

Qualifications

Previous HR experience isn't essential. We're looking for someone with a genuine interest in people, a positive attitude and an appetite to learn. Your individuality, energy and ability to connect with others are just as important as your academic background.

Be a second or third-year student studying Human Resources, Hospitality Management, Business Management or a related discipline, ideally seeking an internship as part of their academic programme

Have a genuine interest in Human Resources, recruitment, employee engagement and the people side of hospitality

Be naturally warm, confident and comfortable connecting with people at all levels of an organisation

Bring energy, creativity, curiosity and a proactive, hands-on approach

Have excellent administrative and organisational skills, with strong attention to detail and an understanding of confidentiality

Be a team player who's eager to learn, contribute ideas and embrace new challenges

Have an interest in lifestyle hospitality, music, art, culture and creating engaging workplace experiences

Be confident using Microsoft Office applications and comfortable learning new HR systems and technology

Have a good working knowledge of Portuguese and English; additional languages are a plus

Be flexible, adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced pre-opening environment
