Job summary

The Standard, Lisbon is looking for an HR Intern to join our pre-opening HR team. You will help recruit, welcome and engage the 150 employees who will bring The Standard, Lisbon to life and foster our unique workplace culture.

You will gain hands-on HR experience across recruitment, onboarding, HR admin, and employee engagement in a fast-paced pre-opening environment.

Qualifications

• Student in a related field (HR, Hospitality, or Business) in year 2 or 3.
• Genuine interest in people, recruitment and hospitality.
• Warm, confident and able to connect with others at all levels.
• Energetic, curious and proactive with a hands-on approach.
• Strong organizational skills and discretion with confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Assist with recruitment processes, screening and coordination for the opening team.
• Support onboarding and employee records, HR administration and documentation.
• Help plan and participate in employee events and engagement initiatives.
• Collaborate with HR leadership and learn about employment law in Portugal.

Your role

As our HR Intern, you’ll join us at one of the most exciting moments in a hotel’s journey: the countdown to opening. Working alongside our HR team, you’ll gain hands‑on experience of what it takes to recruit, welcome and engage the 150 employees who will bring The Standard, Lisbon to life.

You’ll support a wide range of HR activities, from recruitment, interview coordination and onboarding to HR administration, employee records and maintaining our HR systems. You’ll also get involved in organising employee events, social activities and engagement initiatives that help create our unique ‘Anything but Standard’ workplace culture.

Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to shadow our HR leadership team, gain exposure to Portuguese employment legislation and employee relations, and contribute to exciting HR projects as we prepare for opening day. This isn’t your typical internship. You’ll experience the energy, challenges and unforgettable moments of building a hotel team from the ground up, learning from experienced HR professionals and making your mark before we even open our doors.

We’re looking for someone with personality, curiosity and enthusiasm. Someone who loves working with people, isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves, share ideas and embrace the unexpected. After all, we’re anything but standard.

Previous HR experience isn’t essential. We’re looking for someone with a genuine interest in people, a positive attitude and an appetite to learn. Your individuality, energy and ability to connect with others are just as important as your academic background.

In addition, the ideal candidate will be anything but standard…

• Be a second or third-year student studying Human Resources, Hospitality Management, Business Management or a related discipline, ideally seeking an internship as part of their academic programme
• Have a genuine interest in Human Resources, recruitment, employee engagement and the people side of hospitality
• Be naturally warm, confident and comfortable connecting with people at all levels of an organisation
• Bring energy, creativity, curiosity and a proactive, hands‑on approach
• Have excellent administrative and organisational skills, with strong attention to detail and an understanding of confidentiality
• Be a team player who’s eager to learn, contribute ideas and embrace new challengesHave an interest in lifestyle hospitality, music, art, culture and creating engaging workplace experiences
• Be confident using Microsoft Office applications and comfortable learning new HR systems and technology
• Have a good working knowledge of Portuguese and English; additional languages are a plus
• Be flexible, adaptable and comfortable working in a fast‑paced pre‑opening environment
