Job summary

Capgemini Engineering in Portugal's Évora region seeks an experienced GSM-R optimization engineer to join its railway systems team. You will analyze coverage, capacity, and interference, drive KPI improvements, and support modernization projects across planning, implementation, and operations.

The role emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams, node-level optimization, and customer discussions. A minimum of four years in GSM/GSM-R is required, with ETCS/ERTMS knowledge being a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of experience in GSM/GSM-R optimization.
• Strong knowledge of GSM-R architecture and railway standards.
• Experience in coverage, capacity and handover optimization.
• Familiarity with ETCS/ERTMS environments is desirable.
• Experience on railway infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform GSM-R network optimization activities, including coverage, quality, capacity, and interference analysis.
• Monitor and analyze network KPIs and identify performance improvements.
• Conduct drive test analysis and post-processing of measurement data.
• Collaborate with planning, implementation and operations teams.
• Support network acceptance, modernization, and expansion projects.
• Generate performance reports and provide optimization recommendations.

YOUR ROLE

• Perform GSM-R network optimization activities, including coverage, quality, capacity, and interference analysis.
• Monitor and analyze network KPIs and identify performance improvement opportunities.
• Conduct drive test analysis and post-processing of measurement data.
• Investigate and resolve radio network performance issues affecting railway operations.
• Optimize radio parameters to improve network reliability and customer experience.
• Support network acceptance, modernization, and expansion projects.
• Perform neighbor audits, frequency planning reviews, and handover optimization.
• Generate performance reports and provide optimization recommendations.
• Collaborate with planning, implementation, and operations teams.
• Support customer technical discussions and project reviews.

YOUR PROFILE

• Minimum 4 years of experience in GSM/GSM-R Optimization.
• Strong understanding of:
• GSM-R architecture
• Railway telecommunications standards
• Coverage and capacity optimization
• Handover optimization
• Frequency planning
• Interference analysis
• KPI monitoring and troubleshooting
• Experience with railway operational requirements and mission-critical communications.
• Knowledge of ETCS and ERTMS environments is highly desirable.
• Experience working on railway infrastructure projects.
